In the history of Indian cinema, the years 2020 and 2021 have been two of the worst for Hindi films.

While the year began with a bang with the release of Ajay Devgn and Saif Ali Khan’s Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, the year quickly deteriorated as theatres across the country were closed due to the coronavirus.

Several Hindi films attempted to resurrect theatres in late 2020 and early 2021, but all failed terribly. After a year of disappointment in the theatres, all hopes were set on Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi.

The film was released over the Diwali weekend and did extremely well at the box office. The subsequent films, on the other hand, failed to draw crowds to the theatres.

Apart from Sooryavanshi, the only other Hindi-language films that were successful were the Hollywood blockbuster Spider-Man: No Way Home and the Hindi-dubbed Telugu feature Pushpa. 83 was expected to succeed where Sooryavanshi failed last month, but despite favourable reviews, the Ranveer Singh starrer underperformed at the box office.

With the Omicron form of coronavirus spreading across the country, Delhi theatres have once again been closed, forcing the producers of Jersey to postpone their picture. While the year 2021 is likely to conclude on a bad note for Hindi cinema, the year 2022 is expected to restore the lost grandeur of theatergoing. (Note: This list excludes dubbed Hindi films such as RRR and KGF 2.)

Here are six Hindi films that will undoubtedly aid Bollywood’s recovery in 2022:

Laal Singh Chaddha marks Aamir Khan’s comeback to the big screen following the all-time blockbuster Dangal in 2016. It is an official remake of the multiple Academy Award-winning Hollywood classic Forrest Gump. Between those two films, he only appeared in Secret Superstar for a lengthy cameo.

Laal Singh Chaddha is directed by Advait Chandan and stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Mona Singh, Manav Vij, and Telugu actor Naga Chaitanya in his Bollywood debut.

Shah Rukh Khan is said to make a cameo appearance in the film. The film will be released on April 14, 2022.

Cirkus

Rohit Shetty is currently one of Hindi cinema’s most popular and successful directors. Cirkus, his second film after Sooryavanshi, has a lot of buzz surrounding it.

Cirkus is based on William Shakespeare’s play The Comedy of Errors and stars Ranveer Singh, Jacqueline Fernandez, Pooja Hegde, and Varun Sharma.

Cirkus is scheduled to premiere on July 15, 2022.
