It’s a known fact that Bollywood celebrities charge a huge fee when they sign a movie. But, there have been times, when selected few actors decided to do a movie for free or for a very little amount. Sometimes because of the relationship with makers or sometimes because of passion of acting, the actors have decided to do projects without charging their whopping fee. Here are some such actors who charged almost nothing and did the movie for free.
1. Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Manto & Haraam Khor
There are very few actors, who are celebrated for their talent. And, Nawazuddin is one such actor. The actor is famous for being driven by great scripts and not money. In one of the interviews, Manto’s director Nandita Das, revealed that Nawazuddin did this movie for Re 1. The movie starred Rishi Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Divya Dutta and Javed Akhtar. And, apparently, everyone loved the script so much that the topic of remuneration never came up. Another movie that Nawazuddin Siddiqui did for Re 1 was Haraamkhor alongside Shweta Tiwari.
2. Shahid Kapoor, Haider
Do you know Shahid Kapoor loved the script so much that he decided to do the movie for free. And, not just Shahid, even Haider’s director, Vishal Bhardwaj let go of his fee so that business could do good business at the box-office. Shahid Kapoor took to his Instagram and mentioned how he will always be indebted to Haider as the movie helped him find himself.
3. Shahrukh Khan, Hey Ram
Hey Ram, would always be remembered for Kamal Haasan’s brilliant acting as well as Sharukh Khan’s extended cameo. Reportedly Shah Rukh Khan did not charge anything for the role. In an old interview, Kamal Haasan shared the details of SRK not charging anything for the role. He further added, how nobody will believe it and will think it as a promotional story. He further added that Shah Rukh was aware of the budget of ‘Hey Ram’ but he still wanted to be a part of it. Further sharing the details, he mentioned that SRK did the role when the budget ran over and he never asked for remuneration. In fact, he did the movie for a wristwatch.
4. Deepika Padukone, Om Shanti Om
Do you know Deepika Padukone didn’t charge anything for her debut film Om Shanti Om. Given the fact that she got the opportunity to debut against the superstar Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika was more than happy to do the movie for free. And, looking back at her journey, we are sure, she won’t have any regret.
5. Amitabh Bachchan, Black
Do you know Amitabh Bachchan didn’t charge anything for his critically acclaimed role in Black. While dedicating a special blog to Black, he shared the reasons why he did the movie for free. In his note he mentioned, “I had just wanted to work with Sanjay, after seeing all the other works he had done… And when the opportunity came, it was quite overwhelming. I did not take any salary for the film… Just being a part of such an enterprise was sufficient fees!”
6. Meena Kumari, Pakeezah
Meena Kumari’s famous movie Pakeezah was her last movie. Do you know few weeks after the release of the movie, Meena Kumari died due to liver cirrhosis. She charged only Re 1 for her role as Pakeezah, which is also regarded as one of her finest performances.
7. Katrina Kaif, Chikni Chameli
Yes, Katrina Kaif did Chikni Chameli in the movie Agneepath for free. She did it for her bond with Karan Johar. And, while she may not have charged anything for the song, she did receive a lot of audience love and appreciation for this superhit song!
8. Ajay Devgn, Drishyam
While Drishyam broke many records at the box-office, but do you know Ajay Devgn charged only Re 1 as a sign of blessing for the movie. As per RepublicWorld.com, Ajay charged only Re 1 for Drishyam unlike his regular fee. With its powerful storytelling and screenplay, the movie has turned into a cult. We are sure, Ajay Devgn must have been proud to be part of this extra-ordinary film.
9. Raj Kummar Rao, Trapped
As we all know Raj Kumar Rao is one of the most talented actors of recent times. And, Trapped is definitely one of his most memorable performances. In one of his interviews, he shared why he decided to work for free in this film. He said, “Some films are not meant for the box office, they are meant for life. I’ll go from this world after 50 years or whatever..when people talk about 10 films of Rajkummar Rao, they will talk about Trapped.”
10. Kareena Kapoor Khan, Dabangg 2
Be it Fevicol Se from Dabangg 2 or Marjaani from Billu, Kareena aka Bebo did all these songs for free. As per various reports, she did them for free as a token of friendship with Salman & SRK.
11. Farhan Akhtar & Sonam Kapoor
Be it Sonam Kapoor or multi-talented Farhan Akhtar both charged only ₹11 as a token of blessing from the film – Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. The movie turned into super-hit and touched millions of hearts world-wide.
12. Rani Mukherjee, Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham
As Rani Mukherjee has a strong bond with friend Karan Johar, she decided to do a guest-appearance in his movie – Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham for free. As per various reports, she didn’t charge a single penny for her cameo in the movie.
