Star kids who spoke about prejudice against them

Star kids such as Janhvi Kapoor, Ananya Panday, Sara Ali Khan and others are often targetted for being privileged and having it easy in Bollywood. While they have acknowledged the fact that outsiders have to struggle much more, they have also called out the prejudice against their privileged status. Take a look.

On Koffee With Karan 7, Ananya said, My dad did have his fair share of failures. My younger sister Rysa and I have witnessed that as well. That has actually taken a toll on us. But when people keep bringing it up and laughing about it, it obviously does feel hurt. Then there was this joke that you are calling her a ‘star kid’ but her dad was never even a star! So things like that affect me, especially when it’s about my family. I am here to work and entertain people and make them laugh. So if you are laughing with me or at me – how does it matter?”

In Suchitra Pillai's podcast, Janhvi recently spoke about how she was made to feel that she got everything on a platter and got things she does not deserve. I do have respect for the fact that other people have lost out on the opportunity. But no thanks. I realised that what I can do is to make sure that I can give it more than my best and my everything. I don't know about the beauty and talent I have, that you mention, but I do I know about the hard work I have put in for all my films, she said.

In an interview, Sara had said, I definitely believe that knowing people in the industry does help. That’s not a fact that I can run away from. I’ve often admitted to the fact that the biggest advantage of nepotism is that we have easy access to people. There’s also a level of protection that we enjoy. Not that we’ve asked for it, not that we choose our parents, and not that we need to work any less hard. But anyone who denies this isn’t cool.”

In an interview, Abhimanyu had said, People don’t understand the word, and they misinterpret it. Nepotism is nothing but enhanced favoritism. In a way, nepotism is an entitlement, and star kid is a title. There is a big difference between these two terms. Let me tell you that outsiders are entitled and you will understand that when you will have a personal conversation with them. On the other side, a lot of star kids are not entitled. Nepotism isn’t always associated with star kids, there are outsiders who have got opportunities due to favoritism.”

Alia had also commented on nepotism debate and said, I want to punch all those people who say that star kids have it easy because it makes no sense. The way the world is today, either you have it or you don’t.”
