While Bollywood is great at making love stories, one genre where it really struggles is horror movies. With few exceptions, Bollywood has failed miserably at making horror movies, especially in the 2000s. With awful CGIs or weak screenplay or pathetic plots, these horror movies turned out so bad that they became jokes. Seriously, we are talking about the movies that promised to scare us but made us laugh.

Before you read any further, let us make it clear that we are not discrediting any of the masterpieces like Bhoot, Darna Mana Hai and Phoonk. But, along with these masterpieces, Bollywood gave us so many horror movies that made you chuckle.

Bollywood’s Worst Horror Movies That Failed Miserably

1. Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani

Topping the list is Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani. And, like its name, the movie was very anokhi! Created as a horror-fantasy-thriller film, the movie was anything but horror. Though the movie starred Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Sunny Deol, and Armaan Kohli, it tanked miserably at the box office. Some of the things that were wrong with the film were – Sonu Nigam’s acting, everyone convincing Manisha Koirala to forgive molestation, and the horrible copy of CGI sequences from Hollywood!

2. Rakht

This Bipasha starrer was another movie that failed miserably at making people scared. With an IMDB rating of just 3.8, this movie is anything but horror. God only knows why a director such as Mahesh Manjrekar would make such a movie. It starts off slightly original and ends up being a direct “rip-off” of “The Gift”, which stars Keanu Reeves and Cate Blanchett, lifted scene-for-scene. This movie guarantees that you don’t get scared at all! Believe us! What a waste of time and money!

3. Kuch Toh Hai

Directed by Anurag Basu, this movie starred Tusshar Kapoor and Esha Deol. And, this movie is an ideal example of Bollywood lacking creativity. The movie was a blatant copy of Hollywood’s movie – I Know What You Did Last Summer. The movie is about a mysterious killer, who is murdering a group of friends. Unlike the original, Kuch Toh Hai fails to scare you at all. And, after watching Kuch To Hai, you are forced to say – ‘Yeh Kya Tha?

4. Ghutan

We demand makers change the movie’s genre from horror to ridiculous. This movie is actually really disturbing as it literally shows that women are incapable of taking revenge when they are alive. Hence, they have to die and avenge themselves in ghost form. Ravi’s wife, Catherine, returns from the dead to seek revenge against her husband who married her for money and buried her alive in a graveyard.

5. Kaal

Starring John Abraham, Vivek Oberoi, Esha, Ajay Devgn and Lara Dutta, this movie is all about a group of people coming together to beat spirits inside a haunted forest. How could we forget the movie has an item number featuring Malaika, SRK and a bunch of extremely shiny clothes! It is unfortunate how Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan failed miserably to make Kaal a horror movie!
