Trigger Warning: This story contains fictional scenes of domestic violence.
While Indian television is a hub of regressive, patriarchal and misogynist shows, there are few exceptions. Anupamaa, the current favourite of daily soap viewers being one.
Many TV serials touched upon the topics of physical abuse and domestic violence, but failed miserably. They would show how casually a man would slap a woman. They would handle such a sensitive topic with complete insensitivity!
However, Twitter users feel that Anupamaa has set a new inspiring benchmark when it comes to handling difficult topics like depression, trauma, and physical abuse.
After dealing with topics like women emancipation, infidelity and patriarchal norms in Indian households, Rupali Ganguly starrer is being applauded on Twitter for sensitively capturing the ordeal of a domestic violence victim and her struggle with depression.
In the latest episode of Anupamaa, Malvika is triggered by the potential sight of domestic violence. And, without uttering any stupid dialogue or unsolicited remark or suggestion, Anupamaa, the protagonist, just sits next to her holding her trying to comfort her.
