Who’s the next Bollywood superstar?

Who’s the next Bollywood superstar?

The three Khans along with a Devgn, Kumar and Roshan have ruled Bollywood now for more than 2 decades as the reigning superstars. However, all good things have to come to an end at some time or another. Keeping that in mind, whose next to take over the mantle of the film industry’s superstar after 5-6 years when at least 5 of the 6 of them would be at the fag end of leading-man status as they’re many stars among gen-Z Bollywood stars, but no one has quite grabbed the bull by the horns yet to be a bonafide superstar. Check out how they rank…

2/7
Ranbir Kapoor

Ranbir Kapoor

Ranbir Kapoor has three of the highest grossers among the young brigade with Sanju, Brahmastra and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. Plus, he has clocked ₹30 crore plus nett openings twice while none of his peers have done it yet even once. Even his flops like Besharam and Shamshera open well. The fan-following is also humongous across the board. He’s clearly front in line.

Ranveer Singh and Tiger Shroff

Ranveer Singh and Tiger Shroff

While Ranveer Singh also has three massive grossers like Ranbir with Padmaavat, Simmba and Bajirao Mastani, he’s also not yet had an above ₹20 crore nett openers. In-between, he’s had some really low grossers, too, like Jayeshbhai Jordaar. On the other hand, Tiger Shroff has had a huge grosser with War, but co-starring with Hrithik Roshan played a massive part in it. But, he’s had some huge openers like Baaghi 2, just his fifth release, which collected above ₹25 crore nett. Even his critically panned films like Baaghi 3 and Student of the Year 2 have ended as average grossers. After the disaster of Heropanti 2 though, he and Ranveer are even-stevens both in terms of fan-base and box-office pull, thus coming in at a joint second.

4/7
Varun Dhawan

Varun Dhawan

The eye-popping grossers are yet to come, but for pure hit ratio and fan-following, few among gen-Z come close to Varun Dhawan. He’s clearly third in the pecking order and could move up with a one or two ₹200 crore nett movies.

5/7
Kartik Aaryan

Kartik Aaryan

Like Varun, Kartik Aaryan, too, has an enviable hit ratio, plus he boasts of a huge grosser with the recent Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. The fan-following is also large. He’s still newer to the others on the list though and another hit or two like BB2 could see him move ahead.

6/7
Ayushmann Khurrana

Ayushmann Khurrana

Ayushmann Khurrana was in the midst of a purple patch like few others in the history of world cinema before the pandemic struck. He then delivered two big flops with Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui and Anek. Plus, the big grosser is yet to come. A lot hinges on his next few releases to see if he climbs or drops in the pecking order.

7/7
Vicky Kaushal

Vicky Kaushal

Vicky Kaushal is still a bit untested as far as the box office goes, but the fans are there, not to mention he’s had a really big grosser with Uri, and we can’t stress enough what a shot in the arm that was. Like Ayushmann, the next few releases will decide how he rises or dips on the list.
