Though Bollywood is quite popular for its romantic and action thriller, we are happy that in recent times it is striving hard to crack the horror genre, especially horror comedy. With Varun Dhawan’s Bhediya and Katrina Kaif’s Phone Boot, Bollywood is taking charge of horror comedy as well.

Taking a look at 8 Bollywood movies that got horror-comedy just right. With a few laughs and a few scares, they kept us fully entertained.

1. Stree (IMDb: 7.5)

This horror comedy movie is based on the legend Nale Ba – a witch who abducts men at night when they are alone and only leaves their clothes behind. Starring Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurana, and Abhishek Banerjee, this movie is a must-watch. The movie was mostly promoted through word of mouth and made Rs 100+ crore.

2. Makdee (IMDb: 7.5)

Makdee is a 2002 Indian comedy horror film written and directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. It stars Shabana Azmi, Makrand Deshpande, Shweta Basu Prasad, Vijay Raaz, and Alaap Mazgaonkar. The film tells the story of a young girl and her encounter with an alleged witch in an old mansion in the locality, believed by the locals to be haunted. With an IMDb rating of 7.5, this masterpiece is a must-watch.

3. Bhool Bhulaiya 1 (IMDb: 7.4)

Akhsay Kumar-Vidya Balan starrer Bhool Bhulaiya 1 is one of Bollywood’s finest horror comedies. With an IMDb rating of 7.4, this movie guarantees a perfect entertainer.


4. Bhoot Police (IMDb: 7)

Brothers Vibhooti and Chiraunji are assigned a seemingly ordinary case of hunting down demonic spirits in a remote village. However, they soon realize that there is nothing ordinary about this case. Starring Saif Ali Khan, Arjun Kapoor, Yami Gautam, and Jacqueline Fernandez, this movie will keep you entertained.

5. Bhootnath (IMDb: 6.3)

Moving into a new house, a family witnesses an unfriendly ghost who wants to drive them away from the house. Though the movie starts as a typical horror movie, it takes an unexpected turn when the ghost turns out to be kid friendly. With Amitabh Bachchan as a ghost, this movie will take you back in time.

6. Go Goa Gone (IMDb: 6.6)

A group of friends, just looking to have a good time at a rave party on a remote island in Goa, find out that the island is infested with flesh-eating Zombies. With a talented cast of Saif Ali Khan, Kunal Khemu, and Vir Das, this unconventional movie is a must-watch.


7. Bhool Bhulaiya 2 (IMDb: 5.7)

The movie has been directed by Anees Bazmee and features Kartik Aaryan, Kiara Advani, Rajpal Yadav, and Tabu in key roles. This horror-comedy is one of the few Bollywood movies that has made money at the Box-office this year. Reet (Kiara) and Ruhan (Kartik) meet by accident and are sucked into the story of an abandoned mansion and a trapped spirit. What ensues is a light-hearted comedy-horror-drama.

8. Golmaal Again (IMDb: 4.9)

With Golmaal 4, Rohit Shetty explored the horror genre. He roped in Parineeti Chopra to play the role of a female ghost. The movie revolves around how her father and she were killed by her boyfriend who wanted to take over her property. So, after death, she returns as a ghost to seek the help of the Golmaal boys to avenge herself. While Arshad Warsi remains fearful of her, Ajay Devgn ends up falling in love with her.
