 One role that is the toughest and most challenging to play in any movie is that of a God. You have to be perfect in everything that you do and maintain a flawless demeanor throughout. Though playing God might seem like a daunting task, there are some Bollywood stars who dared to play God onscreen. Some of them left impressed, some of them not so much. Just before Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2 hit theatres, here are the most famous actors who portrayed Gods in the world of Bollywood.

1. Amitabh Bachchan – God Tussi Great Ho

Amitabh Bachchan donned a bespoke white suit to depict the Indian God in “God Tussi Great Ho,” a Bollywood remake of the Hollywood film “Bruce Almighty.” With his deep baritone and elegant demeanor, Amitabh breathed life into the character, who gracefully commanded his followers. The movie tanked miserably at the box office and was one of the biggest disasters of that year.

2. Akshay Kumar – OMG – Oh My God

Akshay Kumar charmed the audience with his portrayal of a contemporary Krishna Vasudev Yadav in “OMG – Oh My God.” Playing a modern-day Krishna who assists an atheist in fighting corrupt Godmen, Akshay effortlessly balanced charm with wisdom, much like the revered deity he portrayed.

3. Sanjay Dutt – Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi!

Sanjay Dutt brought a touch of swag to his role as the modern-day God, Yamraaj, in “Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi!” His suave appearance, clad in designer clothes and driving a vintage car, added a refreshing twist to the character of Yamraaj, typically associated with solemnity.

4. Dara Singh – Bajrangbali

Dara Singh’s portrayal of Hanumanji in “Bajrangbali” left an indelible mark on the audience. His powerful build and humble demeanor perfectly embodied the strength and humility of Hanuman, leading to people even worshipping his pictures as the revered deity.

5. Rishi Kapoor – Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic

Rishi Kapoor essayed a contemporary God-like character in “Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic.” Clad in an all-white suit, his character resonated with audiences, displaying a modern take on divinity that won hearts, even though the film didn’t receive much acclaim.

6. Katrina Kaif – Hello

Surprisingly, Katrina Kaif took on the role of God in the film “Hello,” based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel, “One Night @ The Call Center.” Dressed in contemporary attire, Katrina’s character encouraged people to believe in themselves, offering a fresh and inspiring perspective on divinity.

7. Salman Khan – Main Tera Hero

Salman Khan lent his voice to various Gods in the hit film “Main Tera Hero.” With his unmatched charisma, Salman added a touch of magic to the divine characters, leaving a lasting impact on the audience.


8. Prabhas, Kriti Sanon & Devdatta Nage – Adipurush

This particular movie based on Ramayan, got everything wrong about the epic. From trashy dialogues to horrible portrayals, this movie faced a massive backlash. This movie left fans so disappointed and angry that many filed petitions in court against the writer and makers. Adipurush will be remembered as an example when Bollywood failed miserably at portraying God on the big screen.
