Ek Tha Tiger

There is no doubt that superstar Shah Rukh Khan commands and enjoys enviable fan following both in India and overseas. One has to see it to believe it how people go crazy at a mere glimpse of SRK, especially his fans overseas. Shah Rukh Khan could have been Kabir Khan’s tiger if he had not rejected the film. Kabir had approached King Khan for the film. However, despite liking the script, the actor had to turn down the offer due to date issues. He was working on Yash Chopra’s Jab Tak Hai Jaan at the time and couldn’t accommodate another film in his diary.  

3 Idiots

3 Idiots was the third film after Lagaan and Rang De Basanti that proved to be Shah Rukh’s loss and Aamir’s gain. But King Khan had to back out again, this time due to date issues. And as we know, Aamir Khan was third time lucky. The film went on to become the biggest Bollywood grosser of the time.  

Munna bhai MBBS

Can you imagine Shah Rukh Khan in place of Sanjay Dutt as Munna Bhai? Rajkumar Hirani’s comedy about a miscreant trying to win his parents over by pursuing medical studies, was a huge hit. few know that Shah Rukh Khan was the original choice for the role of Munna Bhai and Sanjay Dutt was considered to play Zaheer in the film. But when SRK refused to do the film, it went to Sanjay Dutt, who immediately agreed to do it and Zaheer was eventually played by Jimmy Shergil.  

Lagaan

Aamir Khan couldn’t have been more thankful to Shah Rukh Khan. Had the latter not rejected Lagaan, Aamir wouldn’t have featured in the credits of one of the most illustrative films of his career.  

Kaho Na Pyaar Hai

Hrithik Roshan, too, can thank SRK for rejecting his debut flick, Kaho Na…Pyar Hai. Rakesh Roshan had approached SRK with the script but the baadshah was not convinced. Finally, Rakesh zeroed in on his own son for the double role  

Jodha Akhbar

It is rumoured that Ashutosh Gowarikar wanted to cast Shah Rukh Khan in Jodhaa Akbar to recover the losses incurred by Swades. However, SRK turned down the offer as the film had a tough shooting schedule with far away locations.  

Rang De Basanti

Six years after Shah Rukh Khan gave away Lagaan to Aamir Khan, he repeated his mistake by refusing to be a part of Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Rang De Basanti. Aamir Khan immediately lapped up the opportunity to be a part of the film that was about the struggle for Independence
