1. Sonam Kapoor
The latest actress to join the producer-bandwagon is the young Sonam Kapoor. Her next, Battle For Bittora, in which she is also playing the leading lady, will be her first production venture. She will be co-producing the film with sister Rhea under the banner of their dad’s production company, Anil Kapoor Films Company. Directed by Shashanka Ghosh, Battle For Bittora will see Sonam actively involved in the production process including the finances, casting, costumes et al.
2. Priyanka Chopra
The multi-talented woman surprises us yet again as she turns a producer with director Madhur Bhandar’s next, Madamji, in which she also plays the protagonist. With Madhur and Priyanka teaming up once again, can we expect fireworks?
3. Anushka Sharma
Anushka donned the producer’s hat with NH10 this year. The hard-hitting drama, high on energy and emotions, also saw another side of Miss Sharma’s acting caliber.
4. Pooja Bhatt
The Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin hottie took up production with Kajol and Sanjay Dutt-starrer Dushman in 1998. She has produced many films so far – Zakhm (1998), Sur: The Melody of Life (2002), Jism (2003), Paap (2003), Rog (2005), Holiday (2006) and Jism 2 (2012). Pooja is set to produce two new projects – Cabaret (2015) and Jism 3 (2015).
5. Juhi Chawla
The bubbly beauty partnered a production company, Dreamz Unlimited, with Shah Rukh Khan and Aziz Mirza, producing films like Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani (2000), Asoka (2001) and Chalte Chalte (2003).
6. Hema Malini
Apart from ruling our hearts for years as a charming leading lady, Hema has also produced and directed two films so far. While her first was Dil Ashna Hai (1992), starring Shah Rukh Khan and late Divya Bharti, Malini took charge for the second time almost two decades later, with Tell Me O Khuda (2011), to help daughter Esha Deol strengthen her filmography but to no avail.
7. Lara Dutta
It was the 2011 flick, Chalo Dilli, for Lara. Produced under the actress’s husband Mahesh Bhupathi’s production company, Big Daddy Productions, and Eros International Media Ltd, Chalo Dilli, starring Lara and Vinay Pathak in lead roles, garnered critical acclaim.
8. Dia Mirza
Dia stepped into production with the 2014 movie, Bobby Jasoos. She co-produced it with her then fiancé and now husband, Sahil Sangha. She, however, steered clear of starring in the film and let Vidya Balan essay the title role.
9. Twinkle Khanna
After a not so impressive film career, Twinkle left the industry as an actress only to take over a new role altogether. She co-produced films like Tees Maar Khan (2010), Thank You (2011), Patiala House (2011), Khiladi 786 (2012), and Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty (2014) – all, of course, featuring her superstar husband, Akshay Kumar, as the leading man.
10. Preity Zinta
As Preity realized her filmography was taking a nosedive and needed a push to be revived, she shouldered the responsibility and produced Ishkq In Paris (2013). The film, however, proved to be a box office disaster, giving no aid to Zinta’s plunging career.
11. Ameesha Patel
A co-producer for the upcoming rom-com, Desi Magic, Ameesha Patel too desperately needs a hit. While the film is struggling for a release date, only time will tell whether or not Ameesha’s efforts bear fruit.
12. Manisha Koirala
Manisha co-produced the 2004 dud, Paisa Vasool, with her younger brother, Siddharth. The film, starring Manisha and Sushmita Sen in lead roles, tanked at the ticket windows.
13. Shilpa Shetty
Shilpa’s maiden production venture, Dishkiyaoon (2014) turned a box office debacle. However, the unperturbed actress has already announced her next, which will be a comedy.
14. Hrishitaa Bhatt
Hrishitaa, the actress, met the same fate as Hrishitaa, the producer. Her debut production venture, Shakal Pe Mat Jaa (2011), was a super flop.
