It’s been more than a norm in Bollywood, where famous celebrities prefer to find love in a fellow celeb and get married. At times they get married to famous personalities from other fields. However there are many stars who have chosen to marry lesser known people, who are not from Bollywood. But being a celeb’s spouse can be overwhelming sometimes because of all the public attention and limelight associated with it.
Here are 15 such Bollywood spouses who have kept themselves out of the glare of cameras and gossips, while supporting their partners all the while:
1. Sunny Deol and Pooja Deol
Very little is known about Pooja Deol’s public life, who is also known as “Lynda Deol”. Pooja is from United Kingdom and is not connected with the film industry. Sunny and Pooja’s was an arranged marriage and one of the most private celebrity marriages in Bollywood. They got married in 1984 in UK in a very simple ceremony, attended by close relatives and friends. Pooja has kept herself out of the limelight all these years and loves to spend time with her family instead. The couple have two sons Karan Deol and Rajvir Deol.

2. John Abraham and Priya Runchal
John is one star who maintains a low key himself. He had an almost decade long courtship with Bollywood actress Bipasha Basu, before they parted ways. Priya and John first met in 2010, through mutual friends. After a courtship of almost four years, they both got married in January 2014. Priya is an investment banker and a financial analyst by profession, but has managed to keep herself out of the spotlight of being John’s wife. As per John, she would rather sit back and do some real work.
3. Bobby Deol and Tanya Deol
Unlike his elder brother, Bobby is more flamboyant and outgoing. Bobby was smitten by Tanya’s beauty when he first saw her in a restaurant and that’s how it all started. 4. Govinda and Sunita Ahuja
Sunita’s elder sister is married to Govinda’s maternal uncle. During his struggling days, Govinda used to put up at his mama’s place and Sunita used to visit her sister there. Even though they had different personalities, love blossomed between them and they married each other in 1987. The marriage was kept a secret for 4 years by Govinda, as some people in Bollywood felt that he would lose his female following if the news broke out. 5. Suniel Shetty and Mana Shetty
Suniel Shetty would be one of the very few Bollywood actors who got married before they joined Bollywood. It was love at first sight for Suniel, when he first saw Mana at a restaurant. He had to woo her like any other regular boy, as he was not a famous star then. Since they came from different cultural backgrounds, they had to wait for nine long years to get married. 6. Irrfan Khan and Sutapa Sikdar
While Irrfan Khan is an extremely talented and famous actor, his better half prefers to be behind the scenes as a screenplay writer. Irrfan met Sutapa while they were in National School of Drama (NSD). Both shared similar vibes and by the end of the term at NSD were steady in a relationship. 7. Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Anjali Siddiqui
Famous for his impeccable acting skills, Nawazuddin love cum married life is an interesting one. Initially, Nawaz and Anjali were in love and stayed in a live in relationship for a long time. However, due to a tumultuous relationship between them, the two parted ways. Nawaz then married a girl of her mother’s choice, but the marriage did not last long and ended in a divorce. 9. Neil Nitin Mukesh and Rukmini Sahay
Neil’s decision to tie the knots with Rukmini in an arranged marriage, did surprise many in Bollywood. However, Neil thinks that there is nothing shocking about getting married in an arranged setup, and in fact makes more sense as it’s a strong foundation. Rukmini is an aviation graduate from Aurangabad and is from Mumbai. They met through their families and after dating for a few months decided to get engaged. The couple welcomed their first born, a baby girl, on Sept 20, 2018.

10. R Madhavan and Sarita Birje
Before Madhavan became an actor, he conducted communication and public speaking classes across India. It was during one of these classes in Kolhapur, that he met Sarita, who was aspiring to be an air hostess and joined his personality development class. When she became an air hostess, she asked her out on a date and that’s how it started. After a 8 years courtship, the lovebird tied the knots in 1999. Sarita prefers to stay out of all the attention that comes along her way. She has assisted in designing his clothes for a few of his movies.
11. Sohail Khan and Seema Sachdev
Sohail and Seema’s love story is something out of a Bollywood romantic potboiler. Sohail fell head over heels in love with Seema on their first meeting in a private party. Seema hails from Delhi and had come to Mumbai to pursue a career in fashion designing. Seema’s family was against this match and hence in a completely Bollywood style, the couple eloped and tied the knot in a temple in 1998. Later on her family accepted their marriage and held a nikkah for them too. The couple have two children -Nirvan and Yohan. Seema is a well know name in the fashion sphere and has her own label.
12. Vivek Oberoi and Priyanka Alva Oberoi
Vivek Oberoi had a dream start to his career, winning Filmfare awards for best Debut and supporting actor. He also dated Aishwarya Rai in 2003, but later broke up not long afterwards. He got married to Priyanka Alva in 2010, daughter of former Karnatak minister Jeevraj Alva. Her mother Nandini Alva is a well known social worker. The couple have a daughter and a son. Priyanka prefers to stay away from the cameras and actively works for an NGO named Artistes Foundation for Arts, as part of her social work.

13. Sharman Joshi and Prerna Chopra
Sharman and Prerna’s love story is one of a kind. They met each other in college and felt an instant attraction towards each other. Prerna is the daughter of famous veteran Bollywood actor Prem Chopra. Despite coming from star studded family, she is rarely seen in the limelight.
