Be it copying someone’s music, lyrics, photography or even copying tweets. Bollywood’s love-hate relationship with plagiarism is showing no signs of a break-up anytime soon, because even as recently as this week, popular Bollywood celebrities have been called out for trying to pass off others’ hard work as their own and accused of plagiarising.
We have listed below seven Bollywood celebrities who have been accused of plagiarism in recent times:
1. Urvashi Rautela
Not once, but many times, actress Urvashi Rautela and her team have been accused of plagiarising someone else’s content without giving the author any credit.
Urvashi Rautela is known for having copy-pasted people’s work as her own opinion on social media, Urvashi recently did it again by copying writer John Paul Brammer’s thoughts on the Oscar-Winning movie Parasite and posting it as her opinion of the film on her personal Twitter handle. In other incidents she has also copied PM Modi’s tweet for Shabana Azmi and Sidharth Malhotra’s tweet thanking Mumbai Police.
2. Dabboo Ratnani
Recently Kiara Advani shot for Dabboo Ratnani’s calendar grabbed the most number of eyeballs for his bold and beautiful shoot. However, there was a twist in the tale after a user pointed out that Ratnani copied Kiara’s photo-shoot idea from Marie Barsch, who is an international photographer.
In anither incident Diet Sabya, compared John’s towel pose with that of Antonio Banderas and Sushant Singh Rajput’s previous monochromic stills.
3. Sunny Leone
Last year actress Sunny Leone was blasted on social media for copying for charity an artwork originally painted by French illustrator Malika Favre.
The anonymous Instagram account Dietsabya called out the similarity and shared snapshots of similar photographs of Favre and Sunny’s painting.
4. Malaika Arora
In an Instagram post with a black image, actress Malaika Arora has expressed her outrage over the case of mass molestation of women in Bengaluru.
The heartfelt message on women’s safety attracted massive attention and the actress was soon applauded for voicing against the injustice.
However, turns out that the note, was first shared by Facebook user Darshan Mondkar, and was later copied by Malaika as the caption of her post.
5. Pritam
Music composer Pritam has been accused time and again for plagiarising songs. Pritam is often accused of stealing music from Western and Korean music without giving them due credit.
In the past, Pritam has been accused of lifting songs like ‘Ya Ali’ from ‘Gangster’ (2006) and ‘Bulleya’ from ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ (2016).
6. Badshah
Rapper Badshah has been facing plagiarism charges on social media over his new single, “Genda Phool”, after netizens pointed out that portions of the song have been lifted from the popular 1970s Bengali folk hit, “Boroloker Biti Lo” by veteran Bengali artiste, Ratan Kahar.
Later it was reported that Badshah paid Ratan Kahar Rs 5 lakh after Genda Phool plagiarism row. Kahar confirmed that he has received Rs 5 lakh from Badshah but said that more than monetary help, he is happy to get recognised as the original lyricist of the Bengali folk song.
7. Rakesh Roshan
Rakesh Roshan was sued for copying the music created by Ram Sampath from the movie Krazzy 4. Later Rakesh Roshan paid damages of Rs 2 crore to Sampath to include the song in the film.
