Abhijeet Sawant is one of the most well-known singers in today, having performed some very beautiful songs, and we must not overlook the fact that all of this occurred after he was won the first season of Indian Idol.
It was Indian Idol who made Abhijeet Sawant a household name. India’s one of the most popular and well-liked shows is always known for making futures of amateur singers.
The programme is now in its 12th season, and it has featured several great singers. Many singers’ lives have been completely transformed as a result of it. Abhijeet was one among them as well.
In an interview with the famous writer, Chetan Bhagat, Abhijeet spoke about the height of his career and how he was living out of a suitcase since he had so many concerts scheduled every day. He also mentioned that things had gotten so frantic that he would relax for a few hours in his car before the next function.
He talked about achieving popularity and becoming an overnight celebrity following the programme in an interview. He also discussed what he did with the money he won after winning the programme, but expressed dissatisfaction with his creative output.
Working for money was one of my biggest regrets
When questioned by Chetan Bhagat in the same interview, if he invested money into something or not, he responded,
“I invested well. It was around the time of the 2008 recession, so a lot of the money we’d saved here and there we were realigning. It was a cluster at that point, but I did save well. I bought a house we well, so it was okay. But I was working for money, and I still believe that was one of my biggest regrets.”
He also stated that he was dissatisfied with his music before the pandemic, even though he was working and earning money very well.
“Maybe it’s my thinking, but when you’re running behind money, you have to compromise many things with your talent, your music, your knowledge. I realised that after 35-37, I don’t want to keep saying, ‘What to do, you have to compromise’.”
He also mentioned how the industry is all about ‘show off,’ and how he has been influenced by it. He was even wearing a Rolex watch that was too big for him.
Abhijeet has also spoken out on Indian Idol controversies
Abhijeet Sawant told in an interview that the producers add ‘extra elements’ to the programme to keep it entertaining. However, too much of it diverts the competitors’ attention away from singing, hurting their performance. He also chastised the show for prioritising emotions over genuine skill.
He said,
“Duration of extra elements used to be short at our time. But more relevance is being given to these elements today. They must give challenging work to the contestants. When you work more on other elements, the level of singing goes down. This is my biggest issue or concern. We must spend more time on singing.”
In addition, he expressed his thoughts on the show’s false love angles, saying,
“Every such element was fake in season 11, I have no clue about this season. We need to balance such creative ideas with singing. We must be famous because of our singing and not because of these stories.”
His words seemed as though he was referring to the wedding angle of judge Neha Kakkar and presenter Aditya Narayan.
