The heist genre in Bollywood is still in its infancy, not as extensively explored as maybe romance or action or even comedy. But there are still some really good heist movies that will get your heart racing and set you pleasantly on the edge of your seat.

If you’re looking for a list of the best Bollywood heist movies, we have got you covered.

1. Dhoom (2004)

The first film in the Dhoom franchise, this installment tells the story of a thrilling cat and mouse chase between a gang of robbers on motorbikes and a talented cop who sends in a man to infiltrate the gang. The movie climaxes in Goa where Kabir, the gang leader (played by a charismatic John Abraham), plans on robbing the largest casino in India on New Year’s Eve.

Full points for accuracy, because Goa is one of a handful of Indian states that allow physical casinos. The rest of us have to depend on online casinos to play our favorite casino games such as roulette and Teen Patti.

The second film in the popular heist series, ‘Dhoom 2’ stars Hrithik Roshan as a lone robber stealing important historical artifacts and Abhishek Bachchan reprising his role as the supercop trying to catch him.

Going back to his reliable strategy from the first film, ACP Jai Dixit sends in a woman to team up with Roshan’s character and give him inside info, but the tables turn when Jai’s informant falls in love with the thief and changes sides.

3. Happy New Year (2014)

A street fighter puts together a rag-tag group to pull off a diamond heist under the cover of participating in an international dance championship.

But after stealing the diamonds, the robbers are reluctant to escape because that would mean withdrawing from the final stage of the competition and having India lose. Instead, they go back and perform a final time to save their country from disgrace, risking the utter failure of their heist.

5. Aankhen (2002)

This film is testimony to how good an actor Amitabh Bachchan is. He plays a psychotic villain who trains three blind men to rob a bank as revenge for being fired from his bank manager job due to severe temperamental issues.

He further loses it when the blind men turn on him and refuse to tell him where they stashed the bank loot. Bachchan is legit scary in this movie and the way the heist is pulled off is beautiful.
