Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur's upcoming film Jersey has fallen into trouble. As per reports, the makers of the film have been accused of plagiarism. A writer named Rajneesh Jaiswal has accused the makers of Jersey of copying his script and the matter is in court. The film is directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri. Earlier today, reports emerged that the film has been postponed to next week. While it was being stated that makers wanted to evert clashing with KGF 2 and Beast, it is now being speculated if the plagiarism case is the reason behind its postponment. On that note, here is a list of movie that got accused of plagiarism.
Saaho
It was actress Lisa Ray who had accused the makers of Prabhas and Shraddha Kapoor starrer Saaho of plagiarism. She penned a note pointing out that the makers copied the work of contemporary artist Shilo Shiv Suleman for one of its posters. She wrote, 'We need to stand up and speak up. To hold up a mirror to these makers to make them understand THIS IS NOT RIGHT. It’s come to light that a big budget film production has ripped off one of Shilo’s original creations. This is NOT inspiration but blatant theft. In no world, is this acceptable. The production did not contact the creator, asking her permission or offer to collaborate or offering a credit. Nothing. This is not right.'
Valimai
Metro producer had filed a case against the makers of Ajith-starrer Valimai accusing them of plagiarism. A case was filed against Boney Kapoor of Bayview Projects LLP and filmmaker H Vinoth on the basis that they illegally copied the characters and themes from the 2016 release Metro. The makers were served with notices.
Gulabo Sitabo
Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana's movie Gulabo Sitabo had also suffered plagiarism accusations. Akira Agarwal, son of late writer Rajeev Agarwal, had alleged that he had submitted the script of his film '16, Mohandas Lane' in the Cinestaan India's Storyteller Script Contest, where filmmaker Juhi Chaturvedi was a jury member. Later, Juhi issued a clarification on the same saying 'My conscience is clear, and so are the facts in this matter. ‘Gulabo Sitabo' is my original work and I am proud of it. I shared the idea with the director (Shoojit Sircar) and lead actor (Amitabh Bachchan) of the film in early 2017. I subsequently registered the concept note for the film in May 2018.'
Dear Zindagi
Alia Bhatt and Shah Rukh Khan starrer Dear Zindagi was a hit. It was stated that the film is a replica of a movie called Dear Erica. Director Gauri Shinde had then opened up about the same and said, 'I am deeply disturbed by irresponsible comments from people who have no clue what it is that they are referring to. I have not seen this series that they refer to and I cannot comment on what is in it. In today's world, where everybody sees everything, I am not so dumb that I believe I can get away by deliberate plagiarism nor am I so insensitive to borrow without giving credit, from anybody who has created anything for such a sensitive and important cause.'
Raabta
Magadheera makers had approached the Hyderabad court seeking injunction against the release of Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon's film Raabta directed by Dinesh Vijain. However, it was a day before film's release, the makers of Magadheera withdrew the plagiarism case.
Hindi Medium
The Director of a Bengali film Ramdhanu had filed a complaint against the makers of Irrfan Khan's film Hindi Medium accusing them of plagiarism. However, later, directors Shiboprasad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy withdrew the case.
