Hrithik Roshan, sometimes known as the ‘Greek god’ of Bollywood, is noted for his film choices and the amount of effort he puts into them. However, when you read about an actor turning down an offer, it’s natural to question why they did so. Here are five films that the celebrity turned down but went on to become blockbusters.
1. Swades
Hrithik didn’t want to do Swades because he worked with Ashutosh Gowariker in Jodhaa Akbar. He then explained why he turned down the picture in an interview. “I had read Ashutosh’s Swades script. I couldn’t see it from the director’s point of view, so I didn’t believe I was qualified to play the part. I wasn’t the most qualified individual to convey Ashutosh’s vision. And this was just after the release of Lagaan, so when Ashutosh approached me, I felt on top of the world. One of my favourite movies is Swades. And Ashutosh Gowariker is unquestionably one of my favourite filmmakers,” he added.
2. Baahubali
The titular part was given to the Greek God of Bollywood, but he was not in the mood to take on another historical drama after closing up Jodhaa Akbar. Despite being on a programme, the director stated that Prabhas was the only person he had in mind for the role.
3. Dil Chahta Hai
Hrithik was reportedly offered the roles of Sameer and even Sid in DCH, according to sources and interviews. However, the actor was not interested in playing the part, and the rest is history. It went on to become one of the most well-known films in history.
4. Rang De Basanti
According to sources, the directors contacted Hrithik for the character of Karan Singhania, which was later filled by Siddharth.
5. Lagaan
Hrithik was initially offered Lagaan, but he declined due to his dissatisfaction with the script. The film eventually made it to the Oscars when Aamir took over the project.
