For Bollywood, the 1990s were a crucial decade. It was a genuinely golden era, as evidenced by the fact that even today’s biggest stars in the nation, like Salman Khan and SRK, come from that era and feature films that explore novel subjects in terms of content and the emergence of so many superstars at once. One of the most attractive actresses from the 1990s, Sonali Bendre captivated over a million hearts when she made her acting debut.

Fans knew very little about these famous people since they had little exposure to how Bollywood operated and what their lives were like, unlike today when social media serves as a primary source of information.

Back then, media rumours and the good ol’ gossip mills in the shape of entertainment periodicals provided the fuel. It was a well-known fact that the criminal underworld played a significant part in the production of movies, and some stars even had relationships with some of these “gangsters.”

Sonali Bendre recently clarified this issue in an interview with a channel, talking about anything from how movies are illegally funded to how she has missed out on wonderful opportunities.

“Many ethical sources financed movies. However, there was no official, proper industry status. Therefore, a lot of unregulated financing entered the market as well, and banks will not lend you money for it. So, that restriction existed. There have been times when I was intended to play a role, but someone else got called up instead. The director or co-star will then phone and say, “I have that pressure, and I can’t do anything about it.” And I get it,” she added.

Sonali made her acting debut in the 1994 film Aag. She later appeared in Sarfarosh, Hum Saath Saath Hain, and Diljale. The Broken News marked her first foray into the digital world.
