As far as Indian television is concerned, no one can deny that there is no creativity left. There are so many shows that are either sexist or regressive or are disappointing copies of Bollywood movies. From Love You Zindagi to Naamkaran, here’s a list of TV serials that were terrible remakes/copies of Bollywood movies.

1. Love You Zindagi (Inspiration: Jab We Met)

TV Serials Inspired (Copied) From Bollywood Movies

In this disappointing copy, Pavitra Puni dared to copy Kareena Kapoor’s iconic character Geet from Jab We Met! Though the show initially grabbed the attention for her chemistry with the male protagonist, Sidharth Shukla, but the show was nowhere close to the film.

2. Badho Bahu (Inspiration: Dum Laga Ke Haisha)

TV Serials Inspired (Copied) From Bollywood Movies

Not just the story, but even the poster of this fictional show was inspired by a Hindi movie that starred Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar. The serial’s concept was completely copied from the movie – Dum Laga Ke Haisha. Prince Narula and Rytasha Rathore played the lead roles in this show.

3. Naagin (Inspiration: Nagina)

Everyone knows that Ekta Kapoor’s series Naagin starring Mouni Roy is inspired by the movie Nagina. We all admired the film when it was first released in ’90s as the concept was new at that time. Though Naagin didn’t fail on television, but because of its obvious storyline, it didn’t surprise the audience either.

4. Dil Se Dil Tak (Inspiration: Chori Chori Chupke Chupke)

TV Serials Inspired (Copied) From Bollywood Movies

Based on surrogacy as the main plot, the Sidharth Shukla, Rashami Desai, and Jasmine Bhasin starrer was a copy of the 2001 film. And, what irked many of the audience was the serial too got the concept of surrogacy wrong.

5. Do Hanson Ka Joda (Inspiration: Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi)

TV Serials Inspired (Copied) From Bollywood Movies

Sharukh-Anushka starrer Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi was the inspiration behind the small screen show Do Hanson Ka Joda. The show starred Shalin Bhanot and Shubhangi Atre. Because of a lack of audience interest, the show didn’t even last for 9 months.

6. Naagin 3 (Inspiration: Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani)

TV Serials Inspired (Copied) From Bollywood Movies

How could one think of converting a movie like Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani into a TV serial? Ekta Kapoor’s Naagin 3, starring Karishma Tanna and Rajat Tokas, had a similar plot of a naagin taking revenge, and the show was as bad as the film.

7. Pardes Mein Hai Mera Dil (Inspiration: Pardes)

TV Serials Inspired (Copied) From Bollywood Movies

Starring two popular TV actors, Drashti Dhami and Arjun Bijlani, the show’s storyline was very similar to that of the Bollywood hit, Pardes. Though the serial was shot at beautiful locations of Vienna and Innsbruck, it failed to charm the audience.

8. Jaana Na Dil Se Door (Inspiration: Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam)

TV Serials Inspired (Copied) From Bollywood Movies

Indian Television didn’t even spare Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 90s classic starring Aishwarya Rai, Salman Khan, and Ajay Devgn. The show makers shamelessly created a copy that was disappointing.

9. Naamkaran (Inspiration: Zakhm)

TV Serials Inspired (Copied) From Bollywood Movies

Unlike the other shows on this list, the movie director himself converted his film into a serial. Zakhm’s director Mahesh Bhatt describes his serial as, “The show takes off from where Zakhm ended, making the viewers ask for more.” Starring Barkha Sengupta, Reema Lagoo, and Zain Imam in pivotal roles, the story revolved around a child born out of wedlock and the struggles of the mother.

10. Saapna Babul Ka ….Bidaai inspired (Inspiration: Vivaah)

TV Serials Inspired (Copied) From Bollywood Movies

What is similar between Bidaai and the movie Vivaah? The answer is EVERYTHING. Barring a few minor tweaks, the show is pretty much the copy of the movie Vivaah! This show will definitely make you say – RIP Imagination!

11. Kya Hua Tera Vadaa (Inspiration: Biwi No. 1)

TV Serials Inspired (Copied) From Bollywood Movies

Loosely based on Biwi No. 1, Ekta Kapoor’s Kya Huaa Tera Vaada is about a couple whose life changes when the husband falls for his ex-girlfriend and decides to leave his wife. Keeping the basic plotline same as the movie, Ekta adds her signature touch of drama. Like many other shows on the list, this show also failed to work its magic.
