With stellar performances by Vidya Balan, Rani Mukherjee, and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, the movie is based on the murder of Jessica Lal. The murder case of Jessica Lal left the whole country shocked. In the year 1999, Jessica refused to serve alcohol to three men at an elite event. And, in return, Manu Sharma, son of an influential minister, shot her dead. Jessica’s sister Sabrina had to struggle a lot as she fought against the powerful men for justice. Things turned positive when a reporter joined hands with Sabrina to bring justice to Jessica.
2. SHAHID – SONYLIV
Based on the assassination of Shahid Azmi, a human rights activist and lawyer, this movie is directed by Hansal Mehta. Starring Rajkummar Rao, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Tigmanshu Dhulia, and Kay Kay Menon, this movie received a lot of critical acclaims. Rajkummar Rao plays Shahid Azmi, a lawyer who fights cases for people wrongly charged under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA). With time, he starts facing criticism as people blame him for siding with terrorists. While Rajkummar Rao won the National Award for Best Actor, Hansal Mehta won National Award for Best Director respectively.
3. TALVAR – DISNEY+ HOTSTAR
Based on the double murders of Arushi Talwar and the family’s domestic help Hemraj Banjade, this movie is directed by Meghna Gulzar and written by Vishal Bhardwaj. With talented actors like Konkana Sen Sharma, Neeraj Kabi, and Irrfan Khan, this movie is definitely a must-watch. Vishal Bhardwaj won the National Film Award for Best Screenplay.
4. THE STONEMAN MURDERS – DISNEY+ HOTSTAR
Based on Mumbai’s serial killer, this movie is set in the 1980s. The movie focused on a serial killer, who targeted homeless people and killed them by crushing their heads with a stone. Starring Kay Kay Menon, Arbaaz Khan, and Vikram Gokhale, this crime thriller is based on the real-life serial killer the Stoneman.
5. POSHAM PA – ZEE5
This movie is based on the real-life convicted female serial killers – Seema Gavit and Renuka Shinde and their mother Anjana Gavit. They were accused of kidnapping and murdering children. While Anjana died in prison, her daughters were given the death penalty for the mass murders. Featuring Mahie Gill, Ragini Khanna, and Sayani Gupta, the movie is definitely not for the faint-hearted.
6. RAMAN RAGHAV 2.0 – ZEE5
Seeking inspiration from real-life serial killer Raman Raghav, who terrorized Mumbai in the 1960s, this movie stars Vicky Kaushal, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Sobhita Dhulipala.
7. RANGBAAZ – ZEE5
The story is about how a 25-year-old became one of the terrifying gangsters with the help of some powerful politicians. The web series is set in Gorakhpur and is inspired by the real-life contract killer Shri Prakash Shukla.
