No one can deny that the movies that had a deep impact on us while growing up, don’t have the same effect on you anymore. While some of them, you still love but some you don’t. Doesn’t matter how much iconic they felt during our childhood days, they don’t feel iconic anymore.
Here are 7 ‘iconic’ films from Bollywood that don’t seem so iconic anymore:
1. Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham(2001)
We are sure we are not the first one to point out that this movie was extremely over-hyped. From the father still living in the 70s, the film was so overloaded with the sanskaar and family values that it pushed the movie to be illogical and stupid. And, please explain how Kajol, who overacted in every frame, won an acting award for this one?
2. Hum Saath Saath Hain(1999)
Full of impracticalities, this movie is an endless saga of marriages. Not just over-excited family but also the ingrained patriarchal mindset showcased as a part of sanskaar was simply too much! How could we forget it’s the movie that promotes the ultimate goal of a woman is to be a mother or ‘ghar ki bahu’!
3. Mohabbatein(2000)
“Parampara, pratishtha aur anushaasan.” Seriously, this movie had a school principal who acted like a grandfather. After his girlfriend commits suicide, the man schemes to manipulate his students to fall in love so that they can rebel against the school principal. Nobody cares about studies or career, what they just want is to sing and dance.
4. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam(1999)
After failing to shatter patriarchy, Nandini (Aishwarya Rai) marries Vanraj (Ajay Devgn) who is genuinely a good guy. Throughout the movie, Nandini made us believe that she is truly in love with Sameer (Salman Khan) and she is ready to do anything for him. But, when her husband takes her to Italy to meet Sameer, she shits all over his plans, ditches Sameer (Salman Khan), and comes back to her husband. Woman, can you please make up your mind, about what you want!
5. Dil To Pagal Hai (1997)
No one would deny that the movie was centered around the obsession with marriage; around the obsession of finding THE ONE! There was a substantial hollowness that exists at the very core of the movie. Every character be it Pooja (with the crazy obsession of finding her soulmate) or Rahul (insensitive jerk), no one deserved to be celebrated!
6. Baghban (2003)
No one would deny that the whole movie is an obnoxious guilt trip to manipulate kids! The movie not only shames but also labels kids as evil for living life on their own terms. No wonder it is still the favorite movie of our parents!
7. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998)
Throughout the movie, Rahul keeps preaching – “Shaadi bhi ek baar hoti hai aur pyaar bhi.” But then he falls in love twice and marries twice too! In simple words, Rahul first falls in love with the hot one and when she dies, he falls for the hot one again. Where was love in this one? And, how could Anjali even choose Rahul over Aman?
Sorry, but these movies weren’t really iconic!
