Be it about the portrayal of women or love, Bollywood has disappointed us many times. From showcasing toxic men as romantic heroes to portraying women as dumb and stupid, Bollywood has left many of us disgusted! Not just love, Bollywood has also celebrated toxic friendships on many occasions. Here are some of Bollywood’s favourite characters that are not just shitty, but toxic friends too!

1. Naina (played by Preeti Zinta) From Kal Ho Naa Ho

Naina  from Kal Ho Naa Ho, who constantly body-shamed her best friend, Sweetu and kept cracking fat jokes about her. You must have remembered the scene when our grumpy protagonist, Naina, shamelessly cracks back-to-back fat jokes about her friend, Sweetu.

It is quite heartbreaking how Naina tells her friend that no one will love her if she continued to be fat. Rather than helping her friend to build self-confidence, Naina tells her if someone likes her then he must be ‘blind’. It’s so disgusting! A supportive person like Sweetu definitely deserved a better friend!

2. Poo (played by Kareena Kapoor) from Kabhie Khushie Kabhie Gham

How could a mean friend like Poo be left out of this list. Poo’s character was like a Desi Mean Girl to her friends. Poo’s friends tried to be better and supportive friends. They complimented her wholeheartedly. But how Poo reverted to their compliments with ‘whatever’ showed how fake and toxic she was. Poo treated her friends more like her servants. We definitely believed that Poo’s friends deserved better! What do you think?

3. Bunny (played by Ranbir Kapoor) from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

Bunny kept secret from his friends and did not care to even tell them that he was moving away for further studies. When Bunny landed great opportunities in his career, he completely ignored to keep his friends in the loop. Avi (played by Aditya Roy Kapur) was planning to have a bachelor pad with Bunny when he left for further studies. Sadly, even Bunny did not bother to stay in touch with any of his friends.

4. Rahul (played by Sharukh Khan) from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

Not just being sexist, Rahul was an awful friend. How could one forget how he started laughing at his best friend, Anjali, along with everyone else, when she attempted to dress differently to please Rahul!

5. Ayaan (played by Ranbir Kapoor) from Ae Dil Hai Mushkil

Another character Ayaan is a toxic friend who didn’t understand the meaning of a healthy friendship! It is quite disgusting how he tried to make out with Alizeh, even after she had specifically told him a million times that she’s not into him. Even though Alizeh continuously declined his advances, Ayan just couldn’t respect their friendship and kept making advances.

6. Akash (played by Aamir Khan) from Dil Chahta Hai

Unable to respect the boundaries of his friendship, Akash got his friend Sameer (played by Saif Ali Khan) broke up with his girlfriend just because he believed she was too bossy. It was quite disgusting how Akash kept pushing his friend to ‘be a man’ and messed up his relationship!

7. Akash (played by Aamir Khan) from Dil Chahta Hai

Not just to Sameer, but Akash was a terrible friend to Sid (played by Akshay Khanna) as well. Remember how he made a derogatory remark when Sid professed his love for Tara (played by Dimple Kapadia).

8. Rajiv (played by Shahid Kapoor) from Ishq Vishq

When Rajiv fought with his best friend, Mambo (played by Vishal Malhotra), thinking that he was hooking up with his ex, Payal (played by Amrita Rao). While the film was loaded with sexism, one can’t deny Rajiv was a shitty friend, who fought with his friend for his ex.

Dear Bollywood, stop promoting toxic friends as real friends! It’s better to be alone than be with a toxic friend! Bollywood, please get well soon and start giving us better characters! Because toxicity isn’t cool!
