“Our true nationality is mankind”. No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin or his background or his religion. People learn to hate and if they can learn to hate, they can also be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.

With social media dominating the world, people get to express their own opinion. But at times, netizens come up with comments which are deemed contrary to the spirit of human values.

We have come across people shaming or trolling every second person for their posts on social media. Be it right or wrong reason, some people still find a reason to troll them. From body shaming to talking about their skin colour, it has been a never-ending story.

Several female celebrities have been on the receiving end of body-shaming trolls. However, there are some celebrities who hit out at the body shamers by coming up with bold statements.

But I don’t let it get to me. I know what is more important is that I project a healthy body image for girls who look up to me. Tomorrow if I become skinny, what’s the point? I won’t be able to work well.

I’ll fall sick all the time. I know that’s not my body structure, not my body type. I’ve worked very hard to look the way I look today. I used to weigh 95 kilos. What more do you want from me?”

I was constantly made fun of, but the person I was, I generously laughed with them.

Today, many people ask me what triggered the weight loss, did I give into the “Bollywood pressure”? To that I say – Thank God I became an actor and had that pressure! I can achieve what I couldn’t achieve otherwise. I feel confident, I feel at peace, and I feel proud! Girls and women meet me all around the world, at airports, events, on the street; they hold my hand, hug me, and tell me their struggles and how I changed their lives.”

Bollywood actress Vidya Balan made an offensive comment towards the public when she was told to start exercising and to lose weight. She got annoyed and suddenly vent out frustration towards some people by saying ‘f*ck you’.

In a recent interview, Vidya opened up that she had hormonal problems since childhood and because of this, she would even try starving at points. She said, “I’ve had hormonal problems all my life. It’s probably because of the judgment I’ve carried around my body. When I was a teenager, people would tell me, ‘You’ve got such a pretty face, why don’t you lose some weight?’

It’s not a nice thing to say to anyone. Be it a child or a grown-up. So, I’d starve myself, I’d go through crazy exercise regimens and lose weight. Then the hormonal issue would settle for a bit before it reared its head again.”

Vidya said that even when she was thin, she felt fat. “Weight loss, weight gain, weight loss, weight gain was my pattern for as long as I can remember. Years ago, I stopped watching my shots on the monitor at shoots because I’d look at the monitor and be thinking, ‘Am I looking fat?”

She said, “When people tell me why don’t you start exercising, I want to say f**k you! How do you know I haven’t been exercising? Do you know how hard I exercise? Do you know what challenges I’ve been facing?

“Do you know that my hormonal problem has made it impossible for me to lose weight for years in between? Not just that, there was a period in between when the more I’d work out, the more I’d put on? People would insinuate that you must be eating unhealthy or that you’re lazy.

And these things stick with you. It would anger me no end. I kept wanting people to stop judging me. But over time, I realised that people judge you/your body only if you do,” she added.
