Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt were stopped from entering the Mahakal Temple in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain over the former’s past comment on beef eating. The Bajrang Dal activist gathered outside the temple ahead of their arrival to protest against the actor. Following this, a ruckus broke out between one of the protestors and the policemen. And the actors had to return without the darshan.

A video has gone viral in which a Bajrang Dal activist said that they were protesting against Ranbir, who made a derogatory statement against our gaumata. “We are protesting against Ranbir Kapoor and won't let him enter the Mahakal temple. He made derogatory statements against our gaumata. He had said eating beef is good,” said the activist adding that police started cane-charging them.

Ahead of the Brahmastra release, Ranbir and Alia took a flight to Ujjain hoping to visit the Mahakaleshwar Temple along with director Ayan Mukerji. They had to return back because of the protest outside the temple, however, Ayan took the darshan of the deity, the priest confirmed to ANI. For those unaware, Ranbir in his 2011 interview said that he loved eating beef. “My family is from Peshawar, so a lot of Peshawari food has come with them. I am a mutton, paya, and beef fan. Yeah, I am a big beef fan," he was quoted as saying. The old interview resurfaced ahead of the release of Brahmastra and the actor is called out by the 'boycott gang'.

Well, Brahmastra is facing a lot of controversies because of the lead actors' past comments. Earlier, Alia’s ‘if you don’t like don’t watch’ comment hurt people after which they started the boycott trend on Twitter. Much before that a trailer scene in which Ranbir enters the temple wearing shoes was slammed by the people. Meanwhile, Brahmastra is a sci-fi fantasy adventure drama made on budget of Rs 400 crore and is scheduled to hit theatres on September 9.
