Ayan Mukerji’s upcoming film Brahmastra has been receiving flak since the past few weeks, ever since his lead actress Alia Bhatt stated that if people don’t like her they don’t need to watch her. Netizens took offence and decided to trend #BoycottBrahmastra on social media. Nevertheless, Alia and her co-star husband Ranbir Kapoor continued promotions. Just yesterday they jetted off to Ujjain to offer prayers at the Mahakaleshwar Temple. But they could not seek blessings as Bajrang Dal activists stopped them from entering the temple.

Protesters were upset because of a statement made by Ranbir years ago, which they felt was a derogatory comment against ‘gau mata’. But what did the actor say that offended them so much? Well, during the promotions of his film Rockstar in 2011, Ranbir gave an interview over lunch. Talking about the kind of food he likes, he had said, “I'm not a big chicken guy. I feel that chicken is the soya food of non-vegetarians. I am a mutton, paya, and beef fan. Red meat! Yeah, I am a big beef guy.”

A clip from this interview has now resurfaced on the internet and netizens are divided. Some feel Brahmastra should be boycotted because Ranbir likes to eat beef and are even saying that there is no place for ‘beef eaters’ in Mahakal. However, there are also a few who feel it is wrong to judge someone based on their personal choice. Well, Ranbir and Alia could not seek blessings at the temple because of protesters, but their director Ayan did offer prayers.

Ranbir isn’t the only actor who is being slammed for something he did in the past. Recently Aamir Khan and his film Laal Singh Chaddha were under the radar of boycotters because netizens felt his 2014 film PK had hurt Hindu sentiments.
