3. Taj Mahal 1989 – Netflix

The love drama, which is set in 1989 in a school in Lucknow, India, examines diverse relationships between classmates and coworkers. We are introduced to two professors stuck in an unhappy marriage, and several students who insist they are in love forever. The show tries to address philosophical and political issues against a romantic backdrop.

4. Kota Factory – Youtube/Netflix

The next on our list is Kota Factory, India’s first black-and-white web series. This powerful web series presents a hilariously honest story of the infamous coaching institutes of Kota, and the rat race to clear the IIT-JEE engineering examination.

5. Yeh Meri Family – Netflix

This is a show full of sweet memories from childhood. Set in the summer of 1998, Yeh Meri Family is a story about different emotions towards family members from the eyes of a twelve-year-old, Harshu. Capturing the perfect vibe of the 90s, this series will leave you touched and smiling.

6. Home Shanti – Disney+ Hotstar

Directed by Aakanksha Dua and created by Posham Pa Pictures, this slice-of-life drama revolves around Joshis. Home Shanti is the story of a middle-class family who is building their first house, after spending decades living in government-allocated quarters. With just 3 months left before they have to vacate their current quarter, the show marries chaos and comedy in a great manner.

7. Selection Day – Netflix

Based on Man Booker Prize Winner, Aravind Adiga’s novel, Selection Day, the series received a lot of love from the audience. Produced by Anil Kapoor, the show follows the lives of two brothers named Radha and Manju. They are raised by a cricket-obsessed father, who wants them to achieve great milestones in the field of cricket. In case you haven’t watched it, this show is a must-watch.

8. Laakhon Mein Ek – Amazon Prime Video

Laakhon Mein Ek is a show about an average boy, Aakash, trying to get an extraordinary rank at an IIT coaching institute. Will he succeed or fail

9. Home – AltBalaji

Home is loosely based on the real-life incident of demolition of Kalakruti Society in Mumbai. It offers a fictionalised version of those times through the experience of one family – the Sethis. Starring Annu Kapoor, Supriya Pilgaonkar, Himani Shivpuri, Amol Parashar and Chetna Pandey, the show explores how emotions show up in times of struggle, and how family members and neighbours come together to fight the world.

10. Mannphodganj Ki Binny – MX Player

This is the coming of age story of a 21-year old girl (Binny) from Allahabad. While Binny sees her ticket out of Mannphodganj, in Rahul; she fails to realize what she might be compromising on. The show explores how Binny finds her own identity amid the chaos, and how she is helped by people around her.
