You may have saved some money by avoiding these flop movies in theatres. But, some of them did receive positive responses and might be a decent OTT watch.
Here’s the list of actors who failed to impress in the year 2022 and some of their biggest flops in the year.
1. Ranveer Singh – Cirkus, Jayeshbhai Jordaar
While Ranveer Singh’s last film, 83, had a poor box office performance, this year’s release, Jayeshbhai Jordaar, was a big disaster. The film, which cost Rs 86 crores to produce, made roughly Rs 26 crores at the box office. The audience, however, embraced the film when it was made available on OTT. Cirkus, another Ranveer Sing movie, also failed to perform well at the box office. The Rohit Shetty film not only bombed at the box office but also earned negative reviews from both reviewers and viewers.
2. Kangana Ranaut – Dhaakad
Dhaakad, starring Kangana Ranaut, generated a lot of interest when its teaser was released. It didn’t do well at the box office, though. The film, which had an INR 85 crore rupee production cost, made roughly INR 2.5 crore at the box office. The film’s screenings were canceled across the country, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, starring Tabu and Kartik Aaryan, took over the screens.
3. Ranbir Kapoor – Shamshera
Ranbir Kapoor made a long-awaited comeback to the big screen with an action-packed period drama, but he was unable to capture audiences’ attention. Produced with a budget of INR 150 crore budget, the movie, which also starred Vaani Kapoor, made roughly INR 64 crore at the box office. Filmmaker Karan Malhotra posted a sincere statement on Instagram after the movie’s box office failure, in which he apologized for “abandoning” the project.
4. Akshay Kumar – Raksha Bandhan, Samrat Prithviraj
The year 2022 may have been the worst for Akshay Kumar, who was hailed as one of Bollywood’s most bankable performers. His much-awaited films, including Raksha Bandhan, Ram Setu, and Samrat Prithviraj, failed to live up to expectations. Six movies starring Khiladi Kumar are scheduled for release in 2023: Selfiee, OMG 2 (Oh My God! ), the remake of Soorarai Pottru, Capsule Gill, Vedat Marathe Veer Daudale Saat (a biopic of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj), and Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan. We wish him a glimmer of hope for the new year.
5. Aamir Khan – Laal Singh Chaddha
The movie took 14 years to make. People eagerly anticipated Mr. Perfectionist’s ability to recapture the magic of Tom Hanks in the original Forrest Gump movie. Along with being Aamir Khan’s return movie a few years after Dangal, it unexpectedly bombed at the box office. Was the culture of boycotting to blame? The movie failed to even make back its entire production cost of Rs 186 crores.
6. Prabhas – Radhe Shyam
After the global success of SS Rajamouli’s epic film Baahubali, Prabhas became a household name. The South superstar, however, has fallen short of what admirers had hoped for. Radhe Shyam, which starred Pooja Hegde and Prabhas and was produced for between Rs 300 and Rs 350 crores, barely made between Rs 150 and Rs 200 crores.
7. Amitabh Bachchan – Goodbye
Goodbye didn’t succeed at the box office, despite the fact that many see it as one of the year 2022’s overlooked films. Rashmika Mandanna, Amitabh Bachchan, and Neena Gupta’s film failed to get moviegoers to theatres. The film, directed by Vikas Bahl (of Queen fame), cost Rs 30 crores to produce, but only made Rs 10 crores at the box office. It was appreciated by the audience when the movie was released on OTT.
8. Ayushmann Khurrana – Anek
Even the content-driven film starring Ayushmann Khurrana had a poor box-office performance. The movie makes one confront the subtle forms of discrimination that Northeastern people experience. Despite receiving mixed and positive reviews, the movie bombed. It ended up collecting only about Rs. 11 crore despite having an Rs. 47 crore production budget. Though, Anek turned out to be a huge OTT hit when it was released on Netflix.
9. Hritik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan – Vikram Vedha
It was feared that Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan wouldn’t be able to match the performances of Vijay Sethupathy and R Madhavan in the original film. Fans, particularly those who were impressed by Hrithik’s performance, were blown away when the movie’s trailer was unveiled. But, the fears turned out to be partially right. The Hindi version cost Rs 175 crores to produce, but could only make Rs 135 crores.
10. Ajay Devgn – Runway 34
The Ajay Devgn starrer “Runway 34,” was probably one of the most underappreciated movies of 2022. But, regretfully it did not perform well at the box office. The film, which cost Rs 65 crores to produce, brought in only Rs 54 crores. Ajay plays the lead in this suspenseful movie also produced and directed by him. Ajay plays the flying prodigy Captain Vikrant Khanna in the movie, which is based on true events, and also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Rakul Preet Singh, Boman Irani, Angira Dhar, and Ahmad Harhas.
