Katrina & Deepika Padukone: Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
The original choice for the lead female role in the movie “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani” was not disclosed publicly. However, there were reports that several actresses were considered for the role before it eventually went to Deepika Padukone. Some of the names that were rumored to have been considered for the role include Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma.
Irrfan Khan & Vicky Kaushal: Sardar Uddham Singh
Do you know that initially, Irrfan Khan was supposed to play the lead role in the movie “Sardar Udham Singh”? However, due to his health issues, the filmmakers had to look for another actor. In one of his interviews, director Shoojit Sircar shared that he, Irrfan Khan, and the movie’s producer Ronnie Lahiri had a chat about the movie. Irrfan was okay with the filmmakers finding someone else for the role. But it was a tough decision for them to make. Eventually, they went with Vicky Kaushal to play the role of the freedom fighter in the movie.
Tara Sutaria & Kiara Advani: Kabir Singh
Do you know Kiara Advani wasn’t the original choice fr the movie Kabir Singh? It was Student of the Year 2 fame Tara Sutaria. As per reports, Tara Sutaria revealed in one of her interviews, that she was offered Kiara Advani’s role in the film but she had to let go of it as she was shooting for Student of the Year 2, and then signed Marjaavaan at that time. Eventually, the makers went with Kiara Advani who played the role of Preeti.
‘Manmarziyaan’
‘Manmarziyaan’ was initially supposed to reunite the ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ pair of Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar. Even, they had even shot for ten days in Amritsar in 2016 but the film was put on hold. During one of his interviews, Ayushman said, “I remember I was shooting for ‘Manmarziyaan’ earlier, now of course Abhishek (Bachchan) and Vicky Kaushal are there. Bhumi and I were shooting in Amritsar. We shot for some 10 days..I think the director and the producer were not on the same page at that time. We shot for ten days and later on, I became busy with other films (Bareilly Ki Barfi and Meri Pyari Bindu), Bhumi also got busy with her films (Toilet – Ek Prem Katha), and the cast was changed.”
Tabu-Irrfan & Neena Gupta-Gajraj Rao: Badhai Ho
Do you know Tabu and the late Irrfan Khan were the original choices to portray Ayushmann’s parents in the comedy-drama film Badhaai Ho? The movie director Amit Sharma revealed in an interview that the duo themselves had said that they would not look convincing for the role and Tabu even suggested Neena’s name for the film.

After working on Badlapur with Varun, the maker wanted Varun Dhawan to play the lead for Andhadhun as well. But by the time the film was developed and all the rights were bought, he had been busy with other projects. After the ultimate success of the movie, we don’t think the makers have any regret.
Priyanka Chopra & Alia Bhatt: Gangubai Kathaiwadi
According to reports, the original choice for the lead role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Gangubai Kathiawadi” was actress Priyanka Chopra. However, due to unknown reasons, things didn’t work out. And, eventually, Alia Bhatt got the lead role in the movie after the original movie – Inshallah – she was supposed to star in got shelved.
Salman Khan-Kareena-Rani & Ranveer Singh-Deepika-Priyanka in Bajirao Mastani
This might shock you but Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, and Priyanka Chopra weren’t Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s first choice for Bajirao Mastani. In 2003 Bhansali began work on the masterpiece by casting Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai as Bajirao and Mastani, while Rani Mukerji was to play Bajirao’s wife. But, after Salman and Aishwarya went through a public breakup, it became impossible to cast them together. As per reports, Bhansali then decided to drop Aishwarya and cast Kareena Kapoor in her place. It is during that time that Salman and Kareena did a look test for SLB’s magnum opus. However, later Salman and SLB had a fallout, and plans couldn’t work. It was later, SLB cast Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, and Priyanka Chopra in the lead roles.
