In a candid revelation, Cillian Murphy has openly shared that he has read Bhagavad Gita to prepare for his role. By immersing himself in this ancient text, Murphy sought to gain a greater understanding of Oppenheimer’s perspective and mindset, enriching his portrayal of the character.
Remember the popular quote that Murphy says in the film’s trailer, “I have become death, the destroyer of worlds”. Do you know it has been borrowed from Gita’s famous philosophy? Recently, Cillian revealed, “I did read the Bhagavad Gita in preparation, and I thought it was an absolutely beautiful text, very inspiring. I think it was a consolation to him, he kind of needed it and it provided him a lot of consolation, all his life.” When asked his learnings from Bhagavad Gita, Cillian joked, “Well don’t grill me on it!” The actor then added, “I just found it very beautiful.”
Oppenheimer, an eagerly awaited film from acclaimed director Nolan, is generating immense buzz. On the day the strike was announced, Oppenheimer was scheduled for a special screening. To express solidarity with the actors’ union, many actors from the film staged a walk-out just before the premiere, making a powerful statement.
Talking about the same, Matt Damon extended his support to the SAG-AFTRA, and said, “We’ve got to get a fair deal. We gave the strike authorization. We voted 98% to 2% to do that because we know our leadership has our best interest at heart It’s really about working actors. It’s $26,000 to qualify for health coverage and a lot of people are on the margins and residual payments are getting them across that threshold. This isn’t an academic exercise.”
“This is real life and death stuff. Hopefully, we get to a resolution quickly. No one wants a work stoppage, but we’ve got to get a fair deal.” Matt’s Oppenheimer co-star Emily Blunt echoed, “Obviously we stand with all of the actors and at whatever point it’s called, we’re going to be going home and standing together through it because I want everyone to get a fair deal.”
