The first three months of 2024 are almost over, and let's see how Bollywood has done so far!

Some films did okay, but not great:

  • Merry Christmas: This movie wasn't a big hit, making only about 20 crore rupees (around $2.4 million) in India and 30 crore rupees (around $3.6 million) worldwide.
  • Fighter: This action movie did better, earning 200 crore rupees (around $24 million) in India and 345 crore rupees (around $41.4 million) worldwide. It wasn't a blockbuster, but it did alright.
  • Crakk: This movie flopped, only making 10 crore rupees (around $1.2 million) in India and 15 crore rupees (around $1.8 million) worldwide.
  • Laapataa Ladies: This movie started slow but is picking up steam. It's made 13 crore rupees (around $1.6 million) in India so far and might reach 17-18 crore rupees (around $2-$2.2 million) before streaming.

Some films were actually hits!

  • Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya: This movie was the first real success story of 2024. It's still playing in some theaters and has made 84 crore rupees (around $10 million) in India and over 140 crore rupees (around $17 million) worldwide. People loved it, even with some discount offers on tickets.
  • Article 370: This movie explored a social issue and did well, making 80-82 crore rupees (around $9.6-$9.9 million) in India and reaching 100 crore rupees (around $12 million) worldwide. It was made on a budget, so it's a big win for the producers.
  • Shaitaan: This low-budget horror movie surprised everyone! It's the biggest hit of the year so far. It's already made 117.5 crore rupees (around $14.2 million) in India and 173 crore rupees (around $20.7 million) worldwide in just 15 days. It will likely cross 200 crore rupees (around $24 million) and might even reach 225 crore rupees (around $27 million)!

What about upcoming movies?

  • Yodha: This movie didn't do well at the box office, making only 22 crore rupees (around $2.6 million) in its first week with discounts. It might reach 28-30 crore rupees (around $3.4-$3.6 million) in India and hopefully 50 crore rupees (around $6 million) worldwide.
  • Madgaon Express: There's some hope for this movie to do well, unlike Swatantrya Veer Savarkar which might have limited appeal.
  • Crew: This movie has some good buzz, so it could be successful if critics like it.

Overall, the first quarter of 2024 has been a mixed bag for Bollywood. Some movies did well, some did poorly, and there's hope for a few upcoming releases. Let's see how the rest of the year unfolds!
