Randeep Hooda's Directorial Debut "Swatantrya Veer Savarkar" Sees Steady Growth at Box Office
Randeep Hooda, a well-known Bollywood actor known for his diverse roles, is back in theaters with his latest project, "Swatantrya Veer Savarkar." The film tells the story of Veer Savarkar, a historical figure who played a significant role in India's fight for independence. Savarkar was a complex individual – a politician, activist, and writer – who is considered one of the founders of a particular political ideology in India.
Early box office numbers show promise. According to estimates, "Swatantrya Veer Savarkar" earned ₹2.25 crore on its fourth day in theaters. This follows a collection of ₹2.7 crore on day three, bringing the total to ₹8.25 crore. These numbers suggest that the film is finding an audience and generating interest.
This project holds special significance for Hooda as it marks his directorial debut. In an interview, he explained how he became involved in directing the film. Initially cast as an actor, the script wasn't finalized, causing delays. Instead of waiting, Hooda collaborated with a co-writer and took the initiative to develop the script himself. He describes it as a series of events that led him to take on the director's role unexpectedly.
Directing a historical biopic of such a controversial figure was a big challenge for Hooda. He compared it to "jumping into the deep end" because of the film's historical accuracy and the complexity of the character. His responsibilities extended beyond directing, encompassing writing, post-production, and editing. He credits the film's producer, Vinayak Damodar Savarkarji, for giving him the opportunity to learn and grow as an artist. Hooda acknowledges that directing was a "meteoric learning process" and he continues to learn even now.
Looking beyond "Swatantrya Veer Savarkar," Hooda recently appeared in the streaming movie "Sergeant" and has another film, "Unfair & Lovely," coming up alongside actress Ileana D'Cruz. While this new film showcases Hooda's acting talents, "Swatantrya Veer Savarkar" stands out as a significant step in his career as a filmmaker.
