When it comes to glamorous divas in Bollywood, one name that always finds it place topping the list is Parveen Babi. She was indeed very beautiful and charming but her controversial personal life was disturbing and not many things are known about her. Parveen Babi died a tragic death as it was said to be a suicide. But, some reports suggested that she died due to gangrene of the the foot, due to complications from diabetes. The cops suspected that she would have passed away 72 hours before. Babi was buried on January 23, 2005 in Santacruz next to her mother’s tomb. She was just 55 years when she died. Parveen Babi stayed unmarried throughout her life though she was involved in close relationships with married men. Her relationships with director Mahesh Bhatt and actors Kabir Bedi and Danny Denzongpa were highly publicized.

[ads1] Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt who shared a love affair with the actress in the past was smitten by her completely and he made a semi-autobiographical film ‘Arth’ in 1982 about his extra-marital relation with the actress. In 2006, he produced the movie ‘Woh Lamhe’ that was also based closely on their love story.

Parveen Babi was born as Parveen Wali Mohammad Khan Babi to Gujarati Muslim family on April 4, 1949, in the Junagadh district. She got her school education in Aurangabad and went to St. Xavier’s College in Ahmedabad to accomplish her graduation.


Her life was as dramatic as the films that she did. Starting her career in 1973, Parveen Babi vanished from the movie scene in 1983 on account of a spiritual call. She even had mental breakdowns on the sets of the films she shot for. In the public eye however, she stands tall as the one who succumbed to no convention. Parveen had accused popular dignitaries like Bill Clinton and Amitabh Bachchan of trying to kill her. In fact, she had registered for a written petition in the Bombay High Court against them for trying to kill her, but it got rejected due to lack of proof.


 
After 13 years of Bollywood stardom, the actress, bid goodbye to the film industry and went to New York as she was known to have been suffering from schizophrenia, a kind of delusional disorder. In order to seek solace, she sought for alternative contemporary spirituality and followed Osho for a few years after which she got influenced by the teachings of U.G. Krishnamurti. In 1993, Parveen Babi filed a case against Sanjay Dutt on account of his involvement in Bombay serial blasts indicating that she has gathered evidence. But she did not turn up for the court hearing stating that she was scared of making an appearance in the public.
