If we look back to the year 2001 and the films that released that year, it made it one of the golden year for Bollywood industry. Some of the movies were blockbuster on the big screen and became evergreen. Below is a list.
1. Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham
An old film if compared to times like now, but it is still a comfort for many. The plot, storyline, actors, screenplay, direction everything was one point. This film was obviously a big money snatched for the production house – Dharma Production since it made an amount of 136.6 crores.
Big celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Kajol, Rani Mukherji, and various others shared the screen together. It still remains to be one of the most remarkable films of Dharma Productions and the actors personally as well.
2. Gadar: Ek Prem Katha
This film was one of the reasons behind Sunny Deol becoming the icon he is today. The scene where he uprooted a hand pump only with bare hands made him seem like the Indian version of hulk and people were of course very impressed with the same.
The film bagged an amount of 134.6 crores, produced by the ZEE tele-films production company.
3. Lagaan
Legends say that there are two types of matches when it comes to cricket. One is Lagaan by Aamir Khan and the second is an India vs Pakistan match.
The film is mostly a drama solely based on cricket back during the Victorian era. Produced by Aamir Khan Production and bagged an amount of 65.97 crores. The lead roles were played by Aamir Khan and Gracy Singh.
4. Dil Chahta Hai
To be precise Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is a knock-off version of Dil Chahta hai. The film released back in 2001 and it was based on three friends and the bond of the trio. The lead roles were played by Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and Akshaye Khanna. Produced by Farhan Akhtar this film was one of the movies to hit the blockbuster charts that year and ended up winning several National Film Awards and 7 awards from the Filmfare.
5. Chori Chori Chupke Chupke
The film was released in the year 2001 and it was tagged to be one of the most out-of-the-box contests which were put forward in the plot. The film made people think differently and taught them to every very progressive and accepting of certain things. Eros International was the producer of the film and it bagged 39.51 crores.

6. Nayak
When the movie was released it turned out to be a flop and not a successful one. But years later when the film was re-watched it deserved the fame and recognition it deserved. Years after its release the film was a super hit. The lead roles were played by the evergreen actors like Anil Kapoor and Amrish Puri. The genre of the film was political drama and of course, it was a risky step to make a movie like this.
7. Tum Bin
The genre, romantic drama is of course one of the most-watched genres in the industry. This film was based on that as well and it did really well at the box office. Some of the actors were Sandali Sinha, Rakesh Bapat, Priyanshu Chatterjee, and Himanshu Malik playing the lead roles. The film followed the life of Taran, who lost her fiance amidst a skiing accident.
8. Lajja
The English meaning of the title of the film is a shame, and the theme it covered was feminism and how women in India live with restrictions imposed on them. Being a film which was released in 2001 it was way too progressive of its time. The film of course didn’t do well in India, but it was very successful in the outskirts which made it a success at the end of the day.
9. Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein
RHTDM was declared a cult classic. Thou the film was not a commercial success, the movie is still loved by fans for it’s story line and acting of R. Madhavan. The movie is quite popular among young audience.

10. Chandni Bar
Chandni Bar story revolved around the underworld, prostitutes and the hurdles people face in that profession. Tabu played the lead role in the film and it was released on 28th September 2001. The film won 4 National Film Awards for its performance in the box office and it is one of the evergreen films with the best storyline highlighted.
11. Ajnabee
The plot twist on Ajnabee was something no one saw coming and it actually kept the audience guessing till the end just to have their minds blown. The film was an adaptation of the American thriller Consenting Adults.
12. Jodi No. 1
This film was the reason behind the rise of Sanjay Dutt and Govinda’s partnership in Bollywood. The duo performed in the classiest way possible in the film making it eye candy to the audience. Obviously, this film did very well at the box office.
13. Style
The film had two parts and both of them did well. The plot was based on Bollywood and there were a lot of comic relief scenes in this film. The lead roles were played by Sahil Khan and Sharman Joshi. This film gained a lot of popularity back in the day.
14. Kyo Kii… Main Jhuth Nahin Bolta
The lead role in this film was the fan favorite, Govinda. The film was somewhat based on the Hollywood movie, Liar Liar and the plot revolves around a guy who used to lie way too much, and one day he ended up in huge trouble because of these lies. The movie was a hit at the box office.
