Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is the longest-running sitcom show and also one of the most popular shows of the Indian television industry. It has completed more than 3200 episodes. All of the characters are known for years now and have become household names. A lot of the characters have earlier worked in Bollywood movies and the star cast has a lot of actors who have worked in theater before.
The show is also called mini India. Each character’s religion, punchlines, personality, behavior are set up in such a way that it provides writers a lot of opportunities to add humor in every possible situation. Also with such brilliant characters, clean and sometimes clever humor makes it the most loved show of India. Talking about the show’s characters the most important men of the show, also called as captain of the ship as stated by the director Asit Modi is Jethalal Champaklal Gada played by Dilip Joshi. The crazy accent and classic dialogue delivery by the actor in the show has garnered him a position as one of the most established actors in the industry.
Without Dilip Joshi, the show will lose its value. Dilip Joshi was initially offered the role to play Jethalal’s father which is currently played by another brilliant actor Amit Bhatt. Today we came up with a list of actors who were initially offered the role of Jethalaal but they refused or were not able to be part of the show due to various reasons and lost a golden opportunity but the way Dilip Joshi has played the character we wondered if any other actor can do this role better than him. So let’s check out the list of actors who could not become the famous jethalal of the Taarak Mehta show.
Yogesh Tripathi
Kuch nayochawar dedo bhaiya! Yes, the first contender for this lead role is the actor Yogesh Tripathi. He is known for the character of Happu Singh in the show Bhabhi Ji Ghar pe hai. Before getting fame from the show Yogesh was part of many popular serials like FIR, Lapataganj, Neeli Chatri Waale, etc. The character of Happu became so popular that the makers came upon the idea to introduce a whole different show centered around this particular character and his family named Happu Ki Ultan Pultan.
That even the makers decided to come up with a standalone serial centering on the character and his family and named the same as Hapuu ki Ultan paltan. With several popular comical sitcoms in his kitty, Yogesh was offered the lead role of Jethalal in Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah but he was too busy with his other roles. He has also been a part of 3 films – Dilphire, Admission open, and paa and one short film, Bulbul. Just imagine how he would have looked in this classic character!
Rajpal Yadav
Now we certainly don’t have to remind you about the delights of this actor! Right!? Regarded as one of the greatest comic actors of all time, Rajpal Yadav has been one of the iconic actors of all time who has been ruling the silver screen industry. The greatest entertainer of all time, Rajpal made his appearance on the small screen in 1992 with a Sanskrit series Svapnavāsavadattam and has been never seen on small screens thereafter.
While he was also amongst those to be offered this classic role of Jethalal, he denied participating in the same. On being asked the actor revealed that he has no plans of getting onto smaller screens and performing roles in serials and wants to focus on his filmy career. After his great performances in movies like Dhol, Chup Chup Ke, Malamaal Weekly, etc. It would have been enchanting to get a chance to see him every day as a lead in the sitcom, Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah.
Ehsaan Qureshi
This comedian shot to fame after being a participant in the show, The Great Indian Laughter Challenge in 2005 and emerged as a runner-up to the same. Being a stage performer as a stand-up comedian, Ahsaan had a brief stint in Bollywood where he was seen in films like – Bombay to Goa, Bhavnao Ko Samjho, Ek Paheli Leela, etc. And apart from movies and comical shows he also became a contestant in the most notorious show, Bigg Boss season 2 where he got evicted in the 9th week.
Born and brought up in Madhya Pradesh, this comedian was also approached to play a lead in the serial, Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah as Jethalal. While the actual reason behind him rejecting the role remains a mystery, it would have been delightful to watch him perform daily.
Ali Asgar
Starting his career in 1987 with the television serial, Ek Do Teen Char Ali Asgar has never looked back since. After making an established career as a small screen actor, Ali Asgar became one of the comical actors of the industry. Soon after he entered the small screen, the actor went on to make his mark on the film industry with the 1991 film, Shikari.
And after appearing in numerous television series and films, Ali has also appeared in some popular sitcoms like – Comedy Circus, F.I.R., Jeannie Aur Juju, Akbar Ka Bal Birbal, etc while the longest-running sitcom, Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah would have been added to the great performances of the actor and was probably one of the strongest contenders for this role he went on to reject the role following his busy schedules.
Kiku Sharda
Another prominent comedian of Indian television is Kiku Sharda who has not only ruled the television with the character of Bumper and Backa Yadav but has also been responsible for making us all laugh our hearts out with various other sitcoms. Starting his career with the silver screen in 2001 Punjabi film, Mitti Kiku became one of the iconic actors of the industry.
He has not only ruled the hearts of people with his performance on small screens but has also appeared in movies like – Phir Hera Pheri, Darna Mana Hai, Happy New Year, etc. This television personality was also approached to play the lead character of Jethalal in the sitcom Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah however, Kiku rejected the role saying that he doesn’t want to get stuck in a long-running sitcom and would rather opt for continuing as a stand-up comedian.
