1. Anand And Safar

Anand is one of the highest-rated Indian films on IMDB. Rajesh Kumar played the titular role who was suffering from lymphoma, a kind of blood cancer. Remember the dialogue, Babumoshai Zindagi Badi Honi Chahiye, Lambi Nahi, it is from the movie Anand only. Rajesh Khanna received the Filmfare award for the Best Actor for his incredible performance. Amitabh Bachchan was the second lead in the movie.

Another incredible performance of Rajesh Khanna in the movie Safar. In Safar, Rajesh Khanna played the role of Avinash who has terminal cancer. His performance was appreciated by audiences as well as critics.

2. Barfi!

Ranbir Kapoor, Ileana D’Cruz, and Priyanka Chopra starer Barfi! is a romantic comedy film. Ranbir Kapoor has played the role of a deaf and mute guy, while Priyanka Chopra has played the role of an autistic girl, a kind of disorder of neural development. Both of them played the role exceptionally well. Barfi! was one of the highest-grossing Bollywood movies of 2012.

 

3. Black

2005 movie Black starring Amitabh Bachchan and Rani Mukerji. Rani Mukerji has played the role of a deaf-blind girl, while Amitabh Bachchan has played the role of a teacher who develops Alzheimer’s diseases. Both of them have given incredible performances and received several awards for Best Actor and Best Actress.

 

4. Ghajini

Aamir Khan played the role of businessman Sanjay Singhania who develops anterograde amnesia after a violent encounter. He loses his memory every 15 minutes and has short-term memory loss. The movie is incredible and is about love, thrill, and revenge. Ghajini is the first Indian movie to cross INR 100 crores at the domestic box-office.

 

5. Guzaarish

Hrithik Roshan plays the character of Ethan Mascarenhas who is a quadriplegic. Ethan is paralyzed and immobilized with a spinal injury. He asks for a mercy killing. Guzaarish was directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, this is the third movie of Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai together after Dhoom 2, and Jodha Akbar. Hrithik Roshan’s performance was highly appreciated.

6. Margarita With A Straw

Kalki Koechlin plays the role of Laila Damle who has cerebral palsy, a disease with a permanent movement disorder. The movie Margarita With A Straw deals with the theme of inclusion, human s*xuality preference, and, self-acceptance.  It was premiered at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival.

7. My Name Is Khan

Shahrukh Khan played the role of Rizwan Khan and has autism. Rizwan is having an Asperger’s syndrome. Shahrukh Khan and Kajol paired together after nine years. The movie broke many records at the box office. Shahrukh Khan received the Best Actor award at 56th Filmfare awards.

 

8. Paa

Paa is another movie in the list which is based on rare diseases and disorders starring Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, and Vidya Balan. Amitabh Bachchan played the character of Auro who is a very intelligent twelve-year-old boy but physically he is five times older than his age. He is suffering from a very extreme disorder called progeria. The way Amitabh Bachchan carried himself as Auro bagged him third National Film Award for Best Actor and fifth Filmfare Award for the Best Actor.

 

9. Phir Milenge

The movie Phir Milenge has touched the subject of AIDS. Shilpa Shetty plays the role of HIV positive. The performance of Shilpa Shetty was critically acclaimed and was nominated for several awards. Salman Khan played an extended cameo in the movie who was also suffering from the same issue.

 

10. Taare Zameen par

Taare Zameen Par is a brilliant movie starring Aamir Khan and Darsheel Safary. The movie revolves around the life of Ishan, an eight-year-old dyslexic child. Aamir Khan played the role of an art teacher who helps Ishan to overcome his disability. The performance of Darsheel Safary was applauded by audiences and critics. Taare Zameen Par received many awards including Best Film and Best Actor Critics by Darsheel Safary.

11. U Me Aur Hum

This was Ajay Devgn and Kajol’s seventh movie together. Kajol plays the role of Piya who is suffering from Alzheimer’s, a neurodegenerative disease in which a person finds difficulty in remembering the events. The movie was also Ajay Devgn’s directorial debut.
