IIT-JEE is considered the toughest exam according to many people. It’s not that easy to crack the exam as it demands years of preparation. But aspiring minds broke all stereotypes by cracking the exam.

On the contrary, there are few others who did not prefer IIT even after cracking it because they got some other opportunity of their own choice. Let’s take a look at the famous people who did not choose IIT even after clearing the toughest exam.

Narayana Murthy (Co-founder and Chairman Emeritus of Infosys)

Narayan Murthy cracked IIT JEE but did not join any of the prestigious IITs as his father was not able to afford the cost of his education and stay in a different place.

So he ended up joining National Institute of Engineering, the University of Mysore for a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and then earned his Master’s Degree from IIT Kanpur.

Prashant Bhushan

Prashant Bhushan attained celebrity status during the IAC days with Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal. He quit IITM in the first semester itself to study economics and then philosophy followed by law.

Sanjeev Bikhchandani

We might have heard about Sanjeev Bikhchandani. He is the founder of Naukri.com. After having worked hard day and night, he successfully cracked IIT only to join St Stephens for an Economics Honours.

Mayuri Kango

Mayuri Kango, who became a familiar figure in Bollywood industry after her 1996 film Papa Kehte Hain with Jugal Hansraj hit the screens. The film didn’t turn out to be a blockbuster, but her song ‘Ghar Se Nikalte Hi’ became a sensational hit. The actress also featured in several other films with A-list stars like Ajay Devgn, Bobby Deol. In 2000, the actress called it quits from the big screen.

After 19 years, Mayuri Kango, today is a prominent professional and has joined Google India as its Industry Head- agency business. She was the managing director of Performics. In the past, she worked as an associate director with Digitas and then worked as a chief digital officer with Media and Zenith.

Not many people know that Mayoori didn’t prefer to join IIT even after clearing IIT JEE Mains. She gave up IIT only to pursue a career in acting.
