The Bollywood of today is not the same as the Bollywood of the 1990s. When you look at the stars, the movies, and the gossip, it all seems to be from a another era.

In today’s ’90s throwback, we’ll look at a lesser-known affair that made headlines in the mid-’90s but has since faded from view in the post-’00s.

Did you know that Sohail Khan had a significant connection with Pooja Bhatt before marrying Seema Khan of Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives fame? So much so that the two had talked about getting married.

Pooja Bhatt discussed her romance with Sohail, their marriage preparations, her friendship with his brothers, and the early schism with his celebrity brother Salman Khan in a 1995 interview with Stardust.

“I’m really comfortable with his family too,” Pooja said when questioned about her lover Sohail Khan and his family. They’re fantastic. I’m very comfortable there. I’m made to feel like I’m a part of something. I have a great deal of respect for them all since they don’t ask any questions. They allowed me to be who I am rather than who I was. They appreciate my one-on-one engagement. They’re like family to me.”

“I’m a huge fan of his father,” she continued. I’ve only recently met Arbaaz, but I really like him. Baby (Alvira) is a sweetheart. His mother is amazing, and they’re all really kind. I agree that Salman and I first despised one other for some strange reason. We didn’t get along at all. And that was portrayed as a huge ‘conflict’ between us. I suppose it started because I didn’t do the movie Love or something. Today, though, we get along swimmingly. We’re actually one big loving family.”

“I’m aware that there are a lot of naysayers out there who are already putting a time limit on our relationship,” she continued, referring to her relationship with Sohail and their marriage preparations. I don’t want to waste any more time reacting. Marriage is on my mind, but Sohail is about to embark on an exciting new profession as a director, and I’d like to wait two years before deciding on the venue and menu. We do want to spend the rest of our lives together. Not merely as in any other relationship’s usual conclusion, but in a want to be together. I want it, and he wants it, too. Ours is a relationship that has developed through time as a result of a variety of elements – trust, respect, and understanding are all there. Finally, we understand the worth of our partnership. But naysayers will continue to be naysayers. The pessimists will always exist. As an example, there are lawyers who will always hope that people will do unlawful things or get divorced so that they can make a living. Voyeurism is a worldwide pastime. But I’m an adult. I don’t live on anyone else’s terms but mine. It doesn’t matter if it’s professional or personal. I just have to account to myself and make compromises with myself. The rest of the world is free to go to hell.”

Sohail Khan married Seema Khan three years after this interview, in 1998. However, the two are said to be living separately presently.
