In recent times, many actors and actresses have spoken about the prevalent nepotism in Bollywood. Many actors and actresses have openly spoken about how nepotism fails so many talented actors and actresses while giving endless opportunities to mediocre star kids. Nepotism is one of the reasons why Bollywood suffers from mediocrity. Thanks to Nepotism, while many mediocre or average star kids get endless opportunities, many talented and deserving actors are sidelined. Here are some such talented actresses, who have been sidelined.
1. Divya Dutta
From Veer Zaara to Delhi-6 to Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Divya Dutta has never left her fans disappointed. Even though she’s one of the finest actors in Indian cinema, Bollywood typecast her as a supporting actor. Do you know for her power-packed performance in Irada, she even received a National Award? It is quite disappointing how even after receiving accolades for her performances, she didn’t receive main lead roles.
2. Mahie Gill
With Dev D and Gulaal, very talented Mahie Gill became an overnight star. She also got the Most Promising Newcomer Award for her performance in Dev D. She also gave some promising performances in movies – Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster, Paan Singh Tomar, Shareek, and Gang Of Ghosts. It is quite a shame how Bollywood wasted this talented actress by not offering her any meatier role.
3. Radhika Apte
No one can doubt Radhika Apte’s talent! Even though she has showcased her talent through powerful performances, we still feel that Bollywood hasn’t done justice to her. Even though she has done many web series, we definitely feel that Bollywood should recognize her exceptional talent and cast her in impactful and meatier lead roles. Given her talent, she definitely deserves it!
4. Nimrat Kaur
Nimrat Kaur – is another great talented actress, who was failed by Bollywood. After receiving critical acclaim at Ritesh Batra’s Lunchbox, we wanted to see more of Nimrat Kaur in Bollywood. While Nimrat Kaur did get some commendable roles like Airlift or Dasvi, we still believe she deserved much meatier lead roles!
5. Tisca Chopra
Tisca Chopra, who has won our hearts with her great performances in the movies like Taare Zameen Par and shows like 24 and hostages, has been struggling to get good roles that don’t typecast her. In her interview with Free Press Journal, she shared how she struggled to get good work after Taare Zameen Par for almost one and a half years. While Bollywood gives endless opportunities to talentless actors, it is sad how talented actress like Tisca Chopra is wasted in Bollywood.
6. Yami Gautam
Be it Vicky Donor or Uri or A Thursday, Yami Gautam has proved to many that she is a powerhouse of talent. With more than a decade-long career in Bollywood, she is still not offered the meaty roles that she deserves. Talented actresses like her should be counted among the A-listers but sadly, Bollywood refuses to value her talent. Dear Bollywood, it’s time we support real talent.
7. Tilotama
Tillotama Shome has won hearts and awards for her talent, but in Hindi cinemas, we don’t see her as often as we want. She won the Best Actress Award for her film Raahgir at the South Asian Film Festival. She made special appearances in Monsoon Wedding, Chintu Cabas Day, Hindi Medium, and English Medium. Her recent OTT release ‘Is Love Enough? Sir’ is definitely a great reminder of her acting prowess. But, still why doesn’t Bollywood cast her in the lead roles?
8. Shefali Shah
This list wouldn’t have been complete without Shefali Shah’s name. While Bollywood wasted this talented actress for years, thanks to OTT, this talented actress received her due credit. By casting her in the role of actor’s mother or side roles, Bollywood movies have denied her the screen time she deserves.
