Of late, there has been a heated debate about the excellence of regional cinema vs. Bollywood. Given the fact, that in recent times, Bollywood has entered into the problematic phase of remakes and biopics. With the unlimited remakes, we wonder is Bollywood losing originality?
Here is a list of blockbuster South Indian films that are being remade in Bollywood with A-list actors.
1. Anniyan
With Ranveer Singh in lead, the remake of this 2005 Tamil film will be helmed by Shankar. Starring Vikram and Sadha in lead roles, Anniyan, is an action drama revolving around a man who suffers from multiple personality disorder.
2. Master
Based on the grapevine, Salman Khan has been approached to play the role that Thalapathy Vijay essayed in Master. As per Pinkvilla, Salman has shown interest in doing the film. The film revolves around an alcoholic professor who is sent to a juvenile school. The drama unfolds when he sees a gangster using children for criminal activities.
3. Soorarai Pottru
Recently, the remake of the Tamil film Soorai Pottru was announced. With Akshay Kumar and Radhika Madaan in the lead, the film will be directed by Sudha Kongara, who helmed the original.
4. Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru
Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, the remake of this crime thriller will star Varun Dhawan in the role of Rahman. Tentatively titled Sanki, this movie will also star Parineeti Chopra.
5. HIT
Rajkummar Rao will play the role of a troubled cop from Homicide Intervention Team in the Hindi remake of the Telugu thriller HIT. The film revolves around the cop who is working on the case of a missing girl and is reminded of the traumatic past that puts him in jeopardy.
6. Vikram Vedha
With Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan in the lead, the remake of Vikram Vedha is in process. The original film which featured Vijay Sethupathi and R Madhavan is about a policeman Vikram who is on a hunt to capture Vedha. When Vedha surrenders and tells him his story, Vikram changes his notion of good and evil.
7. Kaithi
Ajay Devgn, who is hailed as the king of South Indian remakes, will star in the remake of Kaithi. The original film revolves around an ex-convict who tries to meet his daughter after he is out of prison. His attempts are interrupted due to a drug raid planned by an inspector.
8. Ratsasan
Akshay Kumar along with Rakul Preet has been approached for the remake of this Tamil thriller. The original movie revolved around the story of a cop who tracks down a serial killer who murders school girls.
9. Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo
Kartik Aaryan will play the lead in the remake of this Allu Arjun’s Telugu blockbuster. The Hindi remake will be titled Shehzada and will be directed by Rohit Dhawan. The movie revolves around a boy who grows up being constantly subjected to his father’s scorn.
10. Bhaagamathie
Starring Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar in the lead role, the movie will also have Arshad Warsi playing a prominent character.
