Here are some of our favourite movie stars that started as TV performers before making it big in Bollywood:
1. Shah Rukh Khan
SRK, often known as the Badshah of Bollywood, began his acting career in 1989 with the TV serial Fauji. It was actually a funny story that the actor was originally cast as the show’s second lead, but the audience and camera adored him so much that he was promoted to the show’s main role.
2. Vidya Balan
Before making her Bollywood debut with Parineeta, we all grew up watching Vidya as Radhika Mathur in the classic TV serial Hum Paanch.
3. Ayushmann Khurrana
Before starring in Vicky Donor in 2012, the actor worked as a radio host for BIG FM in Delhi and auditioned for MTV Roadies Season 2. He’s also starred in shows like India’s Best and Channel V Popstars, as well as TV serials including Kayamath (2007) and Ek Thi Rajkumari on Zee Next.
4. Yami Gautam
Chand Ke Paar Chalo starring Yami in 2008, followed by Raajkumar Aaryyan, CID, and Yeh Pyar Na Hoga Kam. In 2010, she competed on Meethi Choori No 1 and Kitchen Champion Season 1. She began appearing in films before making her Bollywood debut in 2012 with Vicky Donor.
5. Sushant Singh Rajput
He debuted on television with Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil, went on to star in Pavitra Rishta, and appeared in CID. Before making his Bollywood debut with Kai Po Che!, he appeared, in reality TV shows such as Zara Nachke Dikha and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 4.
6. Irrfan Khan
Irrfan was a member of the Doordarshan programme Shrikant before making his Bollywood debut with Salaam Bombay! in 1988. Before his big break in Bollywood, he appeared in some Television shows such as Bharat Ek Khoj, Chanakya, Chandrakanta, Banegi Apni Baat, Just Mohabbat, Ssshhhh…Koi Hai, Mano Ya Na Mano, and Don, among others.
7. Hansika Motwani
We all remember her as a kid performer in Bollywood films like Hawa, Koi… Mil Gaya and Aabra Ka Daabra, but she made her television debut in 2001 with Des Mein Niklla Hoga Chand. Shaka Laka Boom Boom, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Son Pari, Karishma Kaa Karishma, and Hum Do Hain Na are among her other works in which she features and establishes herself as a credible actor.
8. Aditya Roy Kapur
Aditya worked as a VJ on Channel V India from 2004 to 2008, hosting shows including Pakao and India’s hottest before making his Bollywood debut in London Dreams.
9. Mandira Bedi
Mandira worked in the renowned TV series before making her big Bollywood debut with Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, in 1995. Aahat, Aurat, Ghar Jamai, CID, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin, and Sarabhai vs Sarabhai were among her many television appearances.
10. R. Madhavan
Madhavan debuted in ‘Yule Love Stories’ in 1993 and went on to star in Banegi Apni Baat, Ghar Jamai, and Saaya, among other films. Aarohan, Sea Hawks, Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum, and Tol Mol Ke Bol were some of his other roles. All of this happened before he made his Indian cinema debut in Shanti Shanti Shanti and became well-known, thanks to Mani Ratnam’s Alaipayuthey.
11. Prachi Desai
She rose to fame after starring in Kasam Se in 2006 and Kasautii Zindagii Kay in 2007. Before making her Bollywood debut in 2008 with ‘Rock On!!,’ she also won Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.
12. Pulkit Samrat
In 2006, he made his television debut with Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, and he also appeared opposite Mouni Roy in the reality programme Kaho Na Yaar Hai. In 2012, he made his Bollywood debut with Bittoo Boss.
13. Rajpal Yadav
Rajpal Yadav was a member of the Sanskrit TV show Svapnavsavadattam in 1992, before acting in Bollywood films such as Dil Kya Kare, Mast, and Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya.
14. Mouni Roy
Her major Bollywood start in Gold with Akshay Kumar has cleared the door for larger things in the future. Mouni had already won hearts with programmes such as Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kasturi, Sshhh… Phir Koi Hai- Trittya, Devon Ke Dev…Mahadev, and Naagin.
