Going by the box-office numbers, 2022 seems to be a great year for the Indian film industry. Makers have delivered one blockbuster after the other, making crowds in massive numbers come to the theatres to experience the big-screen magic. However, the same wasn’t the case two years ago due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Impressive performance and different types of content have made high-budget films like RRR shatter all box-office records. Interestingly, this doesn’t stop here as some films like The Kashmir Files are continuing to impress the audiences on OTT platforms.

Directed by Prashanth Neel, K.G.F. Chapter 2 has emerged as the highest-grossing film of 2022. Starring South star Yash in the lead, the film follows the story of Rocky (Yash), an orphan who rises from poverty and eventually becomes the king of the gold mine. The multilingual film was released in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi. According to India Herald, K.G.F. Chapter 2 is nearing the Rs 900 crore mark at the global box office and currently stands at Rs 872.6 crore.
Featuring Ram Charan and Jr NTR in the lead, RRR follows the life of two Indian revolutionaries, Alluri Sitarama Raju (Charan) and Komaram Bheem (Jr NTR) who fight against the British Raj. Directed by S. S. Rajamouli, the epic action drama has grossed Rs 784.2 crore at the box office, as per India Herald.
The Kashmir Files focuses on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in the 1990s, who were forced to flee their homes by the Islamic militants. Offering brilliant performances by Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, and more, the film has crossed over 300 million streaming minutes on ZEE5 and earned Rs Rs 331 crore, as per Indian Express.
Smashing all box-office records is the Kamal Haasan starrer Vikram which revolves around the lives of two siblings, one being a gangster and the other a politician. Helmed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the film has entered the Rs 300 crore club worldwide, per a DNA report.

Starring Alia Bhatt in the lead, Gangubai Kathiavadi is inspired by a chapter in S Hussain Zaidi’s book ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai’. The film revolves around the story of a strong-headed woman from the dark streets of Mumbai, who rose to political glory. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the biographical crime drama is currently streaming on the OTT platform Netflix and has earned a massive Rs 200 crore worldwide, as per Indian Express.
Sarkaru Vaari Paata features Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu in the lead and traces the life of a banker who’s been assigned to bring a fraudster to justice by the government authorities. As per DNA, the film has crossed Rs 200 crore mark at the box office.
The mystery thriller starring Ajith Kumar is a massy action drama offering high-octane sequences by the actor. Valimai’s total box-office collection stands at a whopping Rs 200 crore, as per Times Of India.

Pawan Kalyan’s action drama Bheemla Nayak follows a conflict between a righteous police officer and an ex policeman. Film’s current box-office figures stand at Rs 192.37 crore, according to India Today.
One of Kartik Aaryan’s biggest career hits, the supernatural horror comedy is the sequel to Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan's Bhool Bhulaiyaa. The film also stars Tabu, Rajpal Yadav and Kiara Advani in key roles. Speaking of the current figures, the film has raked in Rs 172.47 crore, per Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh.
Starring Thalapathy Vijay in the lead, Beast follows the life of an Indian spy who ends up in a high-stake hostage situation. As per India Today, Beast’s lifetime worldwide collection stands at Rs 153.64 crore.
