Bollywood has a bad habit of typecasting actors and actresses. It is sad how many a times even talented actors and actresses are restricted to a certain type of role just because Bollywood offers them  the same opportunities.

Here are some actors who play the similar roles in every movie, barring few exceptions:

1. Pankaj Tripathi  (Most Common Role: North Indian Man)

With few exceptions, Pankaj Tripathi’s various roles still give the same vibe in almost every movie  Bareilly Ki Barfi (2017), Newton (2017), Fukrey Returns (2017), Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl (2020) or Mimi (2021), we feel he is expected to play a North Indian man. Even in one of his interviews, he admitted that he didn’t need to work hard for most of his roles. While talking to India Today, he said, “I don’t have to work hard for 90 percent of the roles I get (laughs). Most of the brief I get is simple – there’s a North Indian man, aur tum apna wala kuch kar dena (and then you do you).”

2. Salman Khan (Most Common Role: Larger-than-life Badass Hero)

Be it Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Abhi Zinda Hai or Dabangg franchise, Salman Khan has always played a similar role of a larger-than-life badass hero. In one of his interviews, he himself mentioned that he will only play larger-than-life roles. In recent times, Salman Khan has not experimented with off-beat roles and it looks like he will stick to mainstream commercial movies.

3. Ajay Devgn (Most Common Role: Tough & No-nonsense Man)

Ajay Devgn plays the same role of a tough and no-nonsense man in all his movies. He is never weak and doesn’t care about the society and world in general.

4. Aparshakti Khurrana (Most Common Role: Hero Ka Dost)

Even after being such a talented actor, Aparshakti Khurrana has been typecast in the role of Hero’s friend. Be it Stree, Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi, Luka Chuppi or Bhediya, Aparshakti Khurrana’s role always revolve around being “hero ka dost”. While talking about the similarity in all his roles, he told IANS, “I was travelling and a guy came to me at the airport and said a very thing cute thing which makes me very happy. He said ‘Sir, aapko pata hai aapne hero ke dostun    ko respect de di’ (‘Do you know you gave respect to hero’s friends’). I felt so good about it. And whenever somebody comes and gives me ‘gyaan’ on doing a lead role or look upon down on me as an actor because I am not doing things in the lead space, I just go back to that conversation and feel happy about it.”

5. Varun Dhawan (Most Common Role: Hyperactive, Over-protective Man-child)

Be it Jugg Jugg Jeeyo or Badrinath Ki Dulhania or Student Of The Year or Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania or Main Tera Hero, Varun Dhawan’s many roles are about Hyperactive, overprotective man-child!

6. Kriti Sanon (Most Common Role: Girl Next Door)

With most of her movies – Heropanti, Dilwale, Raabta, Bareilly Ki Barfi, Kriti Sanon has majorly played the role of the girl next door.

7. Nushrat Bharucha (Most Common Role: Desirable Woman)

Even after being so talented, it is quite disappointing how Nushrat Bharucha has been typecast in the role of a desirable woman who takes innocent men for a ride. From Pyaar Ka Punchnama to Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety to Chhalaang, Nushrat Bharucha has been given a similar kind of role.

8. John Abraham (Most Common Role: Action Roles)

Though earlier in his career, John has explored so many different genres – from romance to comedy. But, in recent times, he has been playing similar kind of action roles only.

9. Shraddha Kapoor (Most Common Role: Girl Next Door)

Not just Kriti Sanon, even Shraddha Kapoor has been playing the role of the girl-next-door, who tries to save the broken hero. From Aashiqui 2 to Baaghi, all roles of Shraddha Kapoor look the same.

10. Rajpal Yadav (Most Common Role: Trouble Maker For Comic Relief)

Though Rajpal Yadav is so talented it is quite disappointing how he always plays the role of a poor man who keeps getting beaten for stupid and idiotic reasons.

11. Ranbir Kapoor (Most Common Role: Selfish, Man-Child)

Though Ranbir Kapoor is trying really hard to break his image of a selfish man-child that he created after playing similar roles in his movies. From Saawariya to Wake Up Sid! to Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Ranbir Kapoor has been great at playing a selfish man-child. We hope he soon shatters this image and explores different opportunities.

12. Kartik Aaryan

In the movies like Pyaar Ka Punchnama, Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, Kartik Aaryan has played the characters of a misogynist man, who is in love with monologues.
