Bollywood has lost its originality as it indulges in endless movie remakes for the sake of profits. For some time now, Bollywood moviemakers have started picking up tried and tested storylines to serve their audience. From old classics to south films to Hollywood, Bollywood has been busy churning out remakes.
But, unfortunately, it has failed miserably in recent times. From Cirkus to Coolie No. 1 to Judwaa, there are many remakes that failed to even come close to the originals. Here are 10 Bollywood movies that turned out to be cheap remakes of cult classics:

Bollywood’s Bad Remakes Of Superhit Classics
1. Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag
With an IMDb rating of 1.8, Amitabh Bachchan starrer Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag is one of the worst remakes that no one asked for. Not only does the movie terribly fail as a remake of Sholay, but it’s also a terrible effort even as a stand-alone film. The movie revolves around two bodyguards, who flee to Mumbai in search of work when their old boss gets caught up in a scandal. They eventually end up with a gangster and start doing illegal work and honestly, no one knows why this film was made!
2. Karzzzz
With a pathetic IMDb rating of 2.3, Karzzzz not only ruined the original for us but also proved that even numerology and the extra ‘z’ won’t save a terrible and cheap remake. Along with Himesh Reshammiya, the movie stars Urmila Matondkar. The movie is a remake of the 1980 superhit film Karz, which starred Rishi Kapoor, Tina Ambani, and Simi Garewal. The original movie was hailed as one of the best films of the ’90s. This remake is the perfect example of why Bollywood needs to stop giving us shitty remakes.
3. Himmatwala
We feel Sajid Khan and Ajay Devgn showed a lot of Himmat to make such a bad remake. The original Himmatwala featured talented Sridevi and Jeetendra and was a huge hit back in 1983. With a terrible rating of 1.7 on IMDb, even Ajay Devgn shared how he regretted doing such a horrible movie. In case you haven’t watched it, thank your stars!
4. Action Replay
Action Replay is one of the many bad attempts of Bollywood to recreate Hollywood’s superhit movie. Action Replay, which is the desi remake of Back To The Future, is just another reminder of how Bollywood can ruin any classic. After watching this movie, many wondered why actors like Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan signed this movie. The film literally had no script and bored us to death in the name of mindless comedy.

5. Tees Maar Khan
Attempting to recreate the hilarious comedy, Tees Mar Khan from 1963, Farah Khan created a disaster. With the hugely popular song ‘Sheila Ki Jawaani’, the movie was able to pull a few audiences into the theatre. But, once in the theatre, the movie was unbearable.
6. Judwaa 2
Though this movie did decent business, no one can deny that this is one of those senseless remakes that no one asked for. With the same lines, same songs, and even the same names as that of the original Judwaa, this remake is a movie that was never needed in the first place! Full of over-acting, vague attempts at comedy, and sexist, and misogynist dialogues, you wonder why was it a hit. Perhaps, it’s just a reflection of what is wrong with us.
7. Coolie No 1
This remake of Govinda’s Coolie no.1 wasn’t even close to its original version. Makers need to understand that fancy locations and costumes aren’t the only things that make a movie. Full of sexism and rampant misogyny, this is another movie that was not at all required!
8. Zanjeer
After her career-defining performance in Barfi, Priyanka Chopra signed Zanjeer. Priyanka was nothing more than a mere prop and eye candy in this movie. Talking about her experience of working in Zanzeer, Priyanka Chopra told in an interview that “Sometimes we make mistakes.” And, we completely agree with PC that the Zanjeer remake was a terrible mistake!
9. Umrao Jaan
1981 Rekha starrer ‘Umrao Jaan’ won millions of hearts and turned out to be a super hit. But, in 2006, Bollywood remade it with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan. Unfortunately, the movie couldn’t come close to the original.
10. Cirkus
Angoor is a Bollywood classic with a IMDb rating of 4.8. But, it is sad how Bollywood gave us a cheap and terrible remake in form of Cirkus. Cirkus has been massively criticized and labeled as torture by many. With no humor and terrible acting, this movie has left many disappointed.
Dear Bollywood, please stop giving us lazy remakes. The movie lovers clearly don’t want them. Hope you will understand the power of original content before it’s too late! Which remake did you hate the most? Tell us in the comments below.
