Tamannaah Bhatia, widely recognized for her modest portrayal of intimacy on-screen, recently surprised her fans by breaking her long-standing rule against on-screen kissing for her role in Lust Stories 2. In this upcoming Netflix anthology, she shares the screen with speculated partner Vijay Varma, as well as esteemed actors Neena Gupta, Amruta Subhash, and others.

During an interview with Anupama Chopra from Film Companion, Tamannaah opened up about her decision to break her 18-year-old no-kissing policy for Lust Stories 2.

She shared, “I really wanted to work with Sujoy and I’m really happy that he thought of me for this part especially because I have done literally no intimacy in my career or very little intimacy in my career. I was that audience that would get awkward and I was that audience that was like ‘main ye kabhi nahi karungi, main kabhi nahi kiss karungi on screen (I will never do this, I will never kiss onscreen).’ I was that person, for me it was an evolution to get out of that framework.”

Her motivation to break the no-kissing rule was not driven by a quest for fame after her successful 18-year-long career in the entertainment industry. Instead, it was a testament to her dedication to pushing boundaries and embracing new challenges.

She explained, “India is vast and so many parts are yet to evolve. A lot of evolution has happened, but a lot more is left. I did not want this to sort of hold me back. It was purely for creativity. Not like I am trying to be famous after 18 years (in showbiz). Not my endeavour.”

While Lust Stories 2 undoubtedly holds great significance for Tamannaah, her fans can expect even more from her in the near future. Recently, her new web show Jee Karda also released on Prime Video. And the highly anticipated Tamil film, Jailer, where she shares the screen with industry veterans like Rajinikanth, Jackie Shroff, and Mohanlal. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer is scheduled to hit theaters in August.

Lust Stories 2 will be released on 29 June on Netflix. In case you haven’t watched the trailer, here it is:
