Jennifer Mistry Wins Sexual Harassment Case Against TV Show Producer

Jennifer Mistry, who played Mrs. Roshan Sodhi on the popular Indian sitcom "Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah," recently won a court case against the show's producer, Asit Kumarr Modi. This means the court decided in her favor after she accused him of sexual harassment at work.

The court case ended on February 15, 2024. As a result, Modi must pay Mistry two things:

  • Her unpaid wages from the show
  • ₹5 lakh (around $6,000 USD) as compensation for the harassment

Mistry says Modi initially refused to pay her anything, claiming his business was losing money.

During a court hearing, Mistry described meeting with Modi. She says he:

  • Ignored her at first
  • Claimed to care about her and consider the show's cast a family
  • Then refused to pay her, blaming financial problems
  • Accused her of being influenced by other people who had disagreements with him
  • Demanded to check her phone when he thought she might be recording their conversation (Mistry's husband refused)

In 2023, Mistry left the show and then filed a complaint against Modi, the project head Sohail Ramani, and the executive producer Jatin Bajaj. She accused all three men of sexual harassment at work. Indian law has sections to protect women from unwanted sexual advances, and that's what Mistry based her complaint on.

After winning the case, Mistry thanked her husband and lawyer for their support.
