Chocolaty boy of the industry, R. Madhavan is amongst the most sought actors in Kollywood as well as in Bollywood. He has given many memorable performances in the film industry. Madhavan is not only sweet and romantic in his movies but he turns out to be more similar in his real life too.
Every 90’s kid would remember his movie Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein and his adorable role which made us fall for him. After which people started calling him “Maddy”.

1. Birth Place Jamshedpur, Jharkhand
Madhavan was born to a Tamil family in Jamshedpur, Bihar (now Jharkhand) on 1st June 1970 and received a Tamil upbringing.
2. Madhavan’s full name is Madhavan Balaji Ranganathan
3. Family
Madhavan’s father, Mr. Rangnathan was a management executive in Tata Steel and his mother, Mrs. Saroja was a manager in Bank of India. His younger sister Devika is Software Engineer, now settled in the UK.
4. In 1988 he got scholarship from Rajaram College to represent India in Stettler, Alberta, Canada as a cultural ambassador.

5. Madhavan graduated with a degree in electronics from Rajaram College, Kolhapur, Maharashtra.
6. Amongst the leading NCC cadets
While pursuing his electronics degree, Madhavan was actively involved in NCC training at the age of 22 and was recognized as one of the top NCC cadet in Maharashtra.
7. He wanted to join the army
Due to his performance in NCC he got the opportunity to go England and have training with British Army, the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force. Later he considered joining the army but unfortunately he was rejected due to age cut-off by six months.
8. He started teaching on public speaking and personality development in Kolhapur
Madhavan’s teaching profession motivated him to do post-graduation in public speaking degree, which he completed from Kishinchand Chellaram College in Mumbai.

9. Won the Indian Championship for Public Speaking
In 1992 he represented India at the Young Businessmen Conference in Tokyo, Japan.
10. Meanwhile, he created his portfolio for a modeling agency.
11. First television debut
R Madhavan did a sandalwood talc advertisement in 1996 and also got many guest appearances in TV. One of his famous roles is in Banegi Apni Baat in 1996 on Zee TV prime-time show. Moreover, he got popular from the “Sea Hawk” show as a captain of the ship, and worked as an anchor in Tol Mol Ke Bol.
12. Film career
Finally after playing various supporting character roles, in 1998 Madhavan had the first chance in Indian Cinema from a Kannada film Shanti Shanti Shanti. The miracle happend when he did lead role in the movie Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein in 2001 and then he never turned back.

13. Madhavan was offered the role of Jimmy Shergill in ‘My Name Is Khan’ but the date was clashing with ‘3 Idiots’.
14. He is one of the popular actors who has acted in 7 different languages film.
15. Love marriage
He met his wife, Sarita Birje in his class in 1991. Later the duo started dating each other, and they got married in 1999.
Sarita has worked as a costume designer in a few of his films.
16. The couple has a son named Vedaant
He is also like his father who loves animals and has won PETA’s Compassionate Kid Award for his work for animals.

17. Cutest male vegetarian
Being a vegetarian, he endorsed a brand PETA. In July 2006, he got the title of ‘cutest male vegetarian’ by PETA’s online poll.
18. A charitable person
Lent his support for the Chennai-based charity, The Banyan and has appeared in charity musicals. Once as a guest cook Madhavan cooked dosas and helped raise forty five thousand rupees for a charity in Chennai.
19. A knee golf player
Madhavan has played golf with Amitabh Bachchan and Mani Ratnam for a celebrity charity event in 2007.
He won the qualification round of the Mumbai leg of the Mercedes Trophy golf meet and also qualified for the National Finals, in 2017.
20. Video game characters based on Madhavan
Madhavan’s MIG and Madhavan are the two lead characters of games launched by Paradox Studios Limited.

21. Best Actor award
For his role of coach in the movie Irudhi Suttru, he got the Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Tamil, at Filmfare.
22. Lepra India, in 2016 has signed him to work as a goodwill ambassador to promote action against leprosy.
23. Public speech at Harvard University
Took part and delivered speeches as a part of the annual India Conference at Harvard University in 2017.
