Malayalam actor and politician Mukesh was questioned by the police today regarding a rape case against him. This happened after a report exposed problems in the Malayalam film industry, leading to two cases being filed against Mukesh.
The police officially arrested Mukesh but he will be released after a medical check. A special team questioned him for three hours. Mukesh didn't talk to the media waiting outside. He had already gotten protection from arrest from a court earlier.
Mukesh isn't the only one facing accusations. Actor Jayasurya and Edavela Babu also have cases against them. Jayasurya's case is about intending to outrage a woman's modesty. The actress involved gave her statement to the police after accusing them of verbal and physical abuse on Facebook.
These cases of sexual assault in the Malayalam film industry started coming out after a report by the Justice Hema Committee was made public. Many actresses have spoken up about being harassed by men in the industry, leading to 17 cases so far. Because of this, Mohanlal, a famous actor, also resigned as the president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists.
