The 2018 movie "Tumbbad", which didn't do well when it first came out, is now a huge hit. After being re-released on September 13th, it's making more money and attracting more viewers than even some new movies. In just 10 days, it has earned an additional Rs 22.63 crores, bringing its total earnings to Rs 34 crores. It's expected to keep doing well and could even reach Rs 40 crores, making way more money than it cost to make.
On Monday, Tumbbad broke the record for the highest-earning re-released movie in India since 2000. It beat the previous record holder, Ghilli, which had earned 26.50 crores. Tumbbad has now earned 26.70 crores. It had already surpassed other re-released films like Sholay 3D and Laila Majnu, and now it's at the very top.
With profits already 140% higher than its budget, Tumbbad is even planning to be released in theaters overseas. Its success shows that it was ahead of its time, as people weren't ready for its unique style back in 2018.
Before the re-release, actor Sohum Shah was excited about the sequel, Tumbbad 2. He said that the first movie was a special project for them, and they're overwhelmed by the love it's still getting. He wants to make Tumbbad 2 even better, with a more intense story and bigger surprises.
Sohum Shah also released a new trailer for the re-release, showing some of the movie's spooky visuals and announcing the official re-release date. He shared it on Instagram, saying that stories about truth, goodness, evil, and greed are repeated in every era, and it's time to tell one such story again.
